I think I'm an idiot

My private messages are almost at their max. Now for the dumb question, I cannot figure out how to delete certain messages to free up more space. I click to the right of the message but then I don't see anywhere to delete the message.

There should be a green bar at the very bottom of the screen that says "Selected Messages:" (on the right), and then a drop-down menu saying "Move to folder..."
If you click that drop-down menu, you'll see the "Delete" option. Select the messages you want to trash, click "Delete," then the button to the right labeled "Go"
