Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Leo, my wonderful but stubborn senegal steadfastly refuses to use human words. He has quite the collection of meows, but no words.

So today I had him out on my desk and he found an ink pen, which I took from him. He has apparently added "blowing raspberries" to his repertoire of sounds. He seriously stuck his tongue out and made the right sound (of course his tongue didn't move, just the sound with his tongue out of his beak.)

I think he's having out too much with the teenagers.

Clearly, it would appear that he is being influenced by young adults or men in general. :D My wife made me add the second part of that sentence.

Since he is into sounds you may want to try things like:

Oooo Weee and like sounding words.

Since he is responding to learning sounds that are garnering a response when he tries. So, look at adding lots of facial responses when he tries.

My sennie Sidney only has one human phrase, a rare and twisted "pretty birrrd". But he has a huge repertoire of beeps, clicks, whistles, blue crown conure noises, soda can pop tops and R2D2 noises. He also has a "blowing raspberry" noise, complete with tongue sticking out of the side of his beak, that he delivers with uncanny timing when something happens to him.

Cute tidbit after I adopted him, his 3rd or 4th adoption cause he is a hard bird to live with. We were a couple minutes into the drive home, I was talking to him to hopefully reassure him. Somewhere in there I said, "You are coming home with me. Do you like that?" And the response I got.... "pbbbbbbbbt!"

If you want to get some funny sounding noises out of your bird, find an R2D2 soundboard online and see if he picks up any of those sounds. It is really funny when I hear R2's scream coming out that bird. I wish I could get it on video but he is one of those birds that shuts up whenever I point a camera at him.

So I don't have the only sennie in the world who prefers weird noises to words? That makes me feel so much better.

The first time I heard him meow, I spent 30 minutes looking for a cat in the house. One of our neighbors has a free roaming cat that thinks the entire block is his domain, and on really hot days has been known to slip into our house to nap in our downstairs bedroom. Most of the houses don't have ac, which is common around here, but our ground floor stays fairly comfortable even on 100 F days. I was convinced the cat had gotten in until I saw the bird meow.

He also makes a few sounds that sound sort of like some of my text message alerts. I wonder if that's what he's doing.

Oh, and I think birds are just camera shy. They all do it, though Goofy is the worst. I can take still pictures all day long but as soon as I switch to video they do wonderful statue imitations. How do they know? It's the same device!

I KNOW RIGHT?!?!? It's got to be one of the most frustrating things for me. They will do the most amazing things, the second I want to record them, they might as well be stuffed and mounted on the wall! Except Ely, nothing breaks his groove!

And baby doesn't really say much either. She will kind of say nightnight, or her name, i can't quite tell due to the high pitch of her voice. She likes to make fart noises though.
