I will be leaving for college in late august and I need a place for my two cockatiels to stay. The college is in the Pittsburgh area and I don't want to give them away but give them a place to stay while I'm at college and have them returned to me in the summers and when I complete college. If there's anyone with advice or is willing to take them I would be so grateful. I would be willing to pay also. Thanks.

This is such a sad situation, and one of the many reasons I discourage kids from getting pets.

I had a cockatiel when I went to college. You might check around the college you plan to attend for student housing that's not a dorm or even owned by the college. That's what we did. We rented a little shack of a house near the school but it sufficed and the bird came. Often small pets like birds, hamsters/gerbils, and fish are allowed in rentals. The little frame house was actually cheaper than a dorm. Not as modern, but it was an acceptable sacrifice. Sorry for your dilemma. That has to be really hard.

My kids have pets that they are 'responsible' for, but as parents, hubby and I keep a very close eye on what they're doing and how they're doing it. We accept the ultimate responsibility lies with us. Have you got a parent/sibling/family member you could call on? Probably a lot safer than an arrangement with a stranger?
