I am looking into getting a part-time job. With my disability, there are certain restrictions which REALLY limit my options, so when one arises, I like to take advantage of it if the timing is right. Not sure if this one will pan out, but my dear friend is looking into it for me. She knows the owners which will help in finding an employer who can meet my accommodations. MOST local stores will do so, but national chains- good luck! lol.

Fortunately, I cannot work an 8hr shift on a regular basis. I could probably handle one a week- I say fortunately because that means I can't leave Skittles alone for that long regularly. But leaving him alone for 4hrs wouldn't be a problem.

I want to get a job because I'm healthier than I've ever been in my life, but I'm also swimming in debt, like most Americans. I'd like to get out of debt sooner AND have some extra spending money.

So I just thought I'd post this in case it turns out good for me. I'm hoping for a 12hr a week job (4hrs x 3) but I told my friend I can do 16 if I work up to it, but 20 would be pushing it. I also have to take into account my insurance. If I earn too much, I'll lose it and then I'll be screwed cause half the things I need to stay healthy, I'll no longer have access too. Nothing like being trapped in a hole even when you want to get out of it.

The bad news is, they are not currently hiring. They had hired three different people (for the same job) and the first two didn't work out cause they never showed up or they didn't do the job. This third person seems to be working out well.

The good news is, they are often hiring and my friend says its not because of the work environment its because a lot of times they hire college students who only work part time and they move on and she knows the supervisor and the super said she'd keep her posted.

The best news is this, having Skittles won't be an issue. Even my therapist and my psychiatrist say that preserving what I have with him should be paramount since he's the biggest reason I have grown as much as I have and have done what I've done to move forward. That being said, I am grateful to Skittles as well. He's VERY cooperative when I need to leave the house for a few hours and seems to be unaffected if I am gone for more than two or three hours. He was fine when I left him for five hours that one time and he was fine when I left him for almost 24hrs back around NYs. This is because, I believe, of the amount of attention he receives when I am home. He is always out of his cage when I'm home (except for the rare short-term visitor or bedtime). That gives me a capability that most people don't have. I am grateful for that.

Of course, the main reason I am doing the job is to get out of debt quicker AND for mental health reasons. But all I can think about is ALL the toys and treats I'll be able to get for Skittles. lol. My friend said to me "I thought you wanted to get OUT of debt.". I do, but that doesn't mean I can't use a little of it to spend on new toys etc for him. I'd like to get him a 'nicer' play stand for the living room. He has a nice one now, but its not as nice as other ones I've seen online.

Keep that mindset, Daddio! And the force of the Skitty be with you. :)xo
