I am very proud of making a hanging padded platform perch for my birds today! There was an odd empty space in my room, so I decided that I should make something to go there. This is not machine washable and for small birds only. It would probably be a better idea to replace the cardboard with plastic so you could hand wash it, but oh well. Here's how I did it:
1. Get a shoe box, and trace a circle on the lid and the bottom using a bowl and some sort of pen (I found that Sharpie works best, just remember not to use it around the birds, because of the fumes).
2. Cut them out using a utility/Xacto knife or a box cutter.
3. Hot glue the circles together.
4. Hot glue twine or rope on like so.
5. Cut 2 same-sized circles out of cloth.
6. Hot glue the cloth to both sides.
7. Hang using a pear clip! (I don't know why I have a random board with "K" on it, I found it in the attic and it looks cool!)
Yeahhhh... this needs a lot of modifications..... welp, I'm just proud I did it, and my birds seem to like it! Seriously though, I recommend making HUGE modifications to this before doing it. My birds don't have issues with chewing stuff, and I can clean it with some effort, but it will not be this way for most birds.
Peace!
