I know this is supposed to be for pets but needed to share
My mom passed away a week ago today. The grief I felt is overwhelming to say the least.
Long story short on Friday April 13th 2007 she contracted food poisoning a bacteria called Lysteria (it lives in lunch meat, unpasteurized dairy products and sprouts). It attacked her brain stem and she woke up a year later both completely blind and only able to move her left arm. With long and short term memory intact. When my step dad retired he brought her home and took on 100% of her care at home. He took unbelievable good care of her at home. 8 1/2 years in bed and not a single bed sore ever!
I was also very involved in her care being made her medical power of attorney. Part of me feels relief that her pain and anguish is over. But a huge part of me is totally floored with how much grief I feel. I held her as she passed and although she had been non responsive for the prior 6 days I think she knew she was dying and was terrified. I am so glad it was me with her when she passed.
