Help! I'm in a dilema!! Im a volunteer at my local shelter and 2 days ago a woman had found a conure, a very young conure, and brought him in..so I've been feeding him and talking to him i got him pellets, oat groats..no one really knows how to deal with birds..Its the best i could do for him. So someone has asked for him and is on a list for first dibs (I could obviously get first preference) I'm worried this person might just get him to sell??? I don't know???
Sooo i already have a GGC who is the love of my life!!
I'm usually home all day so he's never in his house..well to cut a long story short, If i rescued him, would i be eventually able to house them together?????would Lolli bond with the newbie and stay bonded with me? I was just thinking Lolli might like some company? Lolli is around 2..what should i do?

Hi there,

I always think you should go with your gut feeling/intuition with things like this (you being worried about the person)

I think that if you have a strong bond with your bird you will keep a good relationship with him as long as you still handle him daily. Don't forget to build up that trust and the basics like step up with the new bird too before you even put them together. I always think it's adorable to see mine preen each other, I love that they have that.

There are more people here with bonded birds that can give you more advice.

Its kind of bizarre because i was thinking about getting Lolli a friend and now this little guy just comes into my life.. I keep thinking about him in that little cage! Im sure there are other posts about this but my minds spinning and i can't concentrate lol

You will do best to keep them in separate cages! Lolli may be a bit angry with you at first, but keep her first in everything you do!

At first of course the new bird will need his own cage. You may someday be able to house them together, you may not. I have never had a bird "reject" me when they got a mate, because I don't allow it lol. I am a strong believer in having more than one bird, and that birds do best with a flock not just a single human in most cases.

And people adopting birds just to sell them is a huge problem. Go with your gut.

If this is a found green cheek, have there been any attempts at finding the owners???? It's possible this is an escape pet, and I'd hate to think that someone might be keeping the bird because they want one (or reselling the bird) when the owner could be looking for the bird. :(

I see a lot of posts for lost birds on 911 Parrot, Craigslist, Kijiji and even Facebook groups such as California Bird Owners. Mickaboo also tries to help reunite birds with their owners.

Thats a great idea MonicaMc, I'll check out these links before i go to try to get him tomorrow! I feel like this person a person who just asks the shelter to notify her when a bird comes in, or keeps an eye on our shelter intakes???only for the purpose of selling birds on. Even if i get him, I will check!
