I accidentally dropped him onto hard floor from 3 feet high. I don't know if he's lethargic, or just sleepy because I just gave him lunch but he sort of seems more inactive than before. He doesn't look like he's in pain and I don't see any visible injuries. Could the fall have damaged him internally?

He's a 5 week old lovebird chick; he can't fly and he stumbles around like a duckling when he walks.

A visit to the vet might be in order... Lots of internal injuries can happen, we just had this happen with an adult cockatoo that was adopted, we got a call Sunday evening, the bird was playing with toys and literally rolled off her playtop cage and seemed a bit stunned. She went in and had some breathing problems, but some time in the oxygen tent and she will be fine, thankfully.

But, if you see a difference in your little one, a vet visit is always the best option. Honey had xrays to rule out a broken keel bone because that the main worry. And remember by their very nature, birds don't show pain or injury, so change of behavior can be a very valid worry.

She well just be stunned and sore (think of how we feel after a minor fender bender, but that impact that makes you feel like you ran into a brick wall), but if you have any worries, get to the vet. Better to worry and be wrong, then to take a wait and see and be wrong about that.

Best of luck and hope your little one is okay!

Oh dear. Do you how he landed, did he fall on his keel bone? Everyone of us if going to say if in doubt go see your AV. To be honest it is best he gets checked and you get peace of mind. It will niggle away, is he ok, isn't he? Let us know the outcome OK?

Well it wasn't a flat fall; he sort of slid the surface, because he was in my palm and he stumbled off of it. I think he was sleepy at first, because he's now back to crying when I put him in his box and he seems to be okay. Normal poop, absolutely no bleeding and he's back to running around and scratching because i think his new feathers.

I dropped mine a few days ago too. It fell about 4 feet to a carpeted floor. Well actually it walked right off my hand before I could react. Thankfully its ok.

I share to let you know things happen. Im not taking it lightly. Just dont feel bad accidents are just that.

Mine have fledged now and have learned not to walk off hands.

Sounds like your little guy is ok.

My babies are Cockatiels.

Head injury worries me most, but, YESSSSS, avian vet, PLEASE!
And good luck!

Mine hasn't learned a thing; I have to firmly hold him now when he's in my hand.
