Mango, Fischer/Peach-faced Lovebird Mix; 4 Parakeets,
Blueboy & Imy, Wally & Polly
Hi,

I'm in a situation with my bird & am not sure what to do. I have a really pretty Fischer Lovebird that I rescued. Her name is Mango. She was never tamed. I have had her about 3 months. She has her own cage which she is comfortable with. She's ok with us reaching in and out. My concern is: How do I tame an adult bird, that is just scared!! I have trained many young birds. I know gentleness, patience, slow movements, no loud noises, no quick movements......she is learning a few new phrases. She's very smart. Has, one time, come to the corner of the cage & let me get nose to nose to talk to her (with my hands behind my back). Yet, the next time I'm at the cage, she's back to running to the back corner. She can't get out between the bars of her cage but can get her head out, so she is rubbing some feathers off her neck. We are doing everything to help her, tame her, keep her calm. She bites hard (hahaah...she bit my index finger to the bone) so, I am at a loss. (I'm not afraid of bites, I've had many birds and have been bitten many times). We would love to see her friendly and tamed. I just need some pointers....can anyone give me some tips. I, thank, any of you who can help me!!

I'm new here soon but id say maybe teaching her to step up with a stick first.. get her out the cage and talk to her.. does she have a play area outside the cage? I'm sure there are a lot of guys on here that have trained mature birds that can help more than me but id defiantly suggest using a stick because bites are not fun they hurt after a while :)

hang in there :)
