Clarke was impulse. We thought he'd work after visiting him, after seeing an add like this. He showed signs that he did want to trust humans. We really, really, lucked in. He's fitted in brilliantly with the others and is progressing so well.

Hand Raised Female Indian Ringneck with Cage | Trade Me

I cannot buy up all the unwanted ringnecks in my area.

I cannot.

Her cage is worth over twice what they're asking alone.

Help me team. Struggling here.

We can try and help you but we can't turn your heart off. The only answer is to stop looking at the adds.

On the other hand you could perhaps just go and see him. He might hate you!

You do realize you asking for help from a forum full of enablers....right? :p

Well in that case Kentuckienne at four, we've passed the threshold of no return.
Haha Kiwi yeah - I think I needed to hear both! Then I can reassure myself either way :D
T00tsyd exactly....hubby wants to go out to pick up a new woodworking tool...so we could just pop in, right? Just see?
LordTriggs and there is the voice of reason I am after ;) Most likely action: Spend that money on toys and perches for those already residing here. It will be a day of unbelievable self control if I get to the end of it without new parrot 'stuff' or a new parrot.

the step after 7 is this!

Just be aware of the jealousy that comes with bringing in the new bird.

We are two adults, owned by three.
I can't handle anymore.

I want more,
but I know that this will take time away from the three that I have made a commitment to already.

my heart breaks every time I see a Red Lored Amazon on Craigslist.
why would anyone want to get rid of one of these awesome birds?

I agree strongly with L. Triggs "you cant save them all."
Don't do it!

(although when i retire I will have at least half a dozen quakers, another macaw and a RLA rescue if possible...so who am I to tell you what to do.)

What the hell, go ahead.
you should do it.
you can you can you can you can....

Don't ask me... I'm a compulsive Ringneck acquirer. The best I could do was stop taking in OTHER species so I would have room for the ringies...

I ended up with two new rope perches, an acrylic hanging toy, an acrylic screw on toy and some grit for the chickens.
No new IRN.
If I was to get another, it would be violet. That was my goal pre: Henry. Then came Henry, 8 months and well socialised within a classroom setting.
I teach. Perfection.
We tempted fate with Clarke. His 'fear of people' meant he was an 'aviary bird only'. It worked. Might not be so lucky next time.
Two IRN's are kinda loud enough when nursing a mild hangover...
"Are you okay? Whatya doing? You been good?"
No. None of your business, and clearly not.

We'll see if she's still around next Saturday.

At one point today I reasoned with myself that if it was a new solid colour mutation (no lacewings and not one already at home) I could bring them home and build a rainbow.

Lol, that's exactly the type of reasoning that leads your neighbors to begin questioning your sanity!

But why no lacewings? Those are so on my list!!!

It's the sort of logic that would land me divorced :D

Because I like sets.
There is a guy who breeds aviary only IRN's around here. Funny ol' man, thought I was out of my mind thinking it was possible to make a decent 'pet' of one. Anyways, he had some incredible lacewing mutations. But in a photo, a set of solids would look effective. A set of just lacewings would look effective too, but I've already started with a green and a blue. :33: Solids and lacewings together wouldn't match the same.

I see!

Chuckling about sets of birds LOL.

As long as you share pics you have as much permission as you need for as many sets as you like LOL.

You stayed strong and resisted temptation... for now, at least! Most impressive!
