Today my cockatiel somehow managed to open his cage door and escape.
The thing is he shares a cage with his budgie friends.
They didn't get out luckily.

Even worse his cage is outside, I put it out during the day.

Anyway I was gone out for the whole day(had to work for my Mum's business for the day), so I didn't know this happened til I got home. (8am-7pm).

So when I got home my brother told me that he found the Cloud (cockatiel) out of his cage. (He got home at 4pm.)
Have no idea what time he got out.

He said he found him trying to get back in his cage, my brother was able to get him back into his cage. (he knows nothing about birds)

Im so glad that Cloud didn't fly away or any cats didn't get him.
Hes not very tame and hes unclipped.

Wow, hes such a good boy.
He said when Cloud got back to his budgie friends and back into his cage, he started singing.

He seems very happy, eating and singing to his friends.
Now I'm going to a clip on there door so this wont happen again.:white1:

I'm glad everything turned out okay!

My birds always gravitated toward their cages, even when they had free access to the whole house.

I am so glad that everything turned out okay. :D

and my two Alexandrines do the same. :p
I leave their cages open (when I'm at home and all they do is keep changing whos cage there on/in.) They both have there own cages.

When my budgies are out, they love to explore, and not wanting to go back to their cage. That's why im SO gad they didn't get out.

Oh i am so happy that it worked out in the end! Glad to hear he is safe and home with his buddies!

Wow, I'm so glad that worked out well! You couldn't have anticipated he would open the door if he's never done it before. Now that he knows how, he may very well do it again. So yes, get a good clip for it. I once saw a video of a cockatoo not only letting himself out, but then opening the doors of all the other bird cages to let the entire flock out.

When I was at the vet recently with my birds, there was a couple there with their dog. The woman got very excited when she saw I had birds. But, she told me when she was a little girl, she would save her allowance, go buy a budgie and then it would always fly out the window and be lost. I have to say, it was hard for me not to say anything. Once you lose the first bird, you would think the parents would do something like get screens or close the windows when the bird is out. Yes, even experienced bird owners can accidentally lose a bird, but when it happens over and over, you have to wonder what people are thinking. Of course I didn't say any of the things that were going through my mind, as she had said she was a little girl then. And not much point in berating her parents 40 years later.

I admit, my Nanday hasn't been clipped for years now. But, I rarely let her out when other people are here just in case. Maybe I should clip her again. I have an aunt who seems to have a knack for accidentally leaving my doors open. She has managed not only to let my dogs out, but to let my livestock in, lol! She has let my pig in and also a goat. At this time I no longer have any dogs, and am down to 2 horses for outside animals. But, I have to admit, I'm always nervous when she's here.

You were very lucky!!!! Dont forget to clip on the feed doors too!!!

Thanks everyone, Yea I know I'm VERY lucky. Im am very glad everything turned out :)

I have also clipped feeder doors, just in case.
:D

I don't want this to happen again.
