Parrots
Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
....BB's "Uncle DJ"...parront of Pookie the M2.. He stopped by the other day while I was working hard on making chop for Amy and Beebs.
I had plenty. So I offered to DJ a small Tupperware bowl of chop for Pook..and he declined, saying "oh...she'll just throw it everywhere and I'll just end up cleaning up the mess" and "oh with the fruit in it,it'll draw those damn no-see-em's out (slang for those darn nasty itty-bitty buggies that come along with fruit)
Ya..welllll...if you let her bowl sit for days they will come! He didn't want to listen to me.
Poor Pookie...she has ONE perch in her huge house,a swing, and TWO of those plastic interlocking hookie thingies for toys in her house...that's IT! oh,and a SEED (that's all she'll eat he says) bowl and water bowl.

Pookie IS out of her house ALOT I will say..and she does get the occasional 'nana or pasta,or bite of this or that.

It just hurts my heart to see her like that. :15:

Is that the same person you got Jonesy from, Jim? I thought I remembered you saying the guy you got Jonesy from has another cockatoo, but I've been wrong before!

Yes Don...the same guy. It is sad really..he is a nice guy..growing up he worked in a rescue caring for predatory birds..hawks,falcon's,eagle's..
He raised ducks..had a couple species..a nice man-made "pond" for them..a heated "house" for them in the winter..I just don't know why Pookie is treated in such a way..

I think there are a lot of owners out there still in the dark about the real needs of parrots. Probably a "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" kinda attitude.

He has had Pook for 25 years or more..and Pookie's "mate"..Scooter...who wanted to "get it on" with Pookie, and she said "not tonight,I have a head ache" and Scooter promptly took Pookies right eye out!
DJ rushed her to his CAV,who had to remove the eye :( DJ said it was actually hanging out of her head..and he had The Cockatoo Man also..all three 'too's at the same time..I dunno Don. Hard to figure some people out

It seems there are people in the world who, despite loving their pet deeply, just don't "get" the care aspect and just didn't develop the ability to be responsible for the care of total dependents. He has kept this bird for 25+ years, would rush his bird to a CAV for care, has a huge cage for her, but doesn't feed her right or furnish the huge cage properly. Some parents are like that too, truly love their children but just don't seem to possess the capacity to be a good parent. It's sad because how much can you fault the person who's heart is in the right place but their head... isn't? That must be frustrating for you to see and not really be able to do much about:(

Thank You April..I think you just hit the nail on the head with that statement..

Jim, that is so sad. It sounds like he is still going by the old days of how to properly care for a parrot before anyone knew any better. It was so nice of you to offer some of your chop...hopefully one day he will take you up on it. You have such a big heart.
