Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
How come Rascal is not jealous of the new tiel Coconut? Even when I'm lovin on the new tiel Rascal couldn't care less LOL. I'm being sarcastic when I say I'm "insulted"... but I thought he would be at least a little jealous? :p

My new tiel is obsessed with me! It races over to me and jumps on me... also gets VERY upset when I try to remove him from my shoulder he refuses to step and up... starts whining/screaching!!!... and runs away from my hand when he knows I'm trying to remove him from my shoulder!

I LOVE Coconut...he is awesome :D

Anyone here have birds that get jealous?

Hey I am delighted that Coconut is setting in so well and that Rascal is allowing it.
My Hercules also loves nothing more that getting to my shoulder and screeches and tries to run away and bite when he is being taken off. I feel like I am hurting him, but it is his favourite place. I have taken to not letting his but he climbs around my back now and gets up that way, he will then happily preen my hair and beard for as long as he is allowed.

I wish I could manage that better for him and me, lol

LOL... I wouldn't be surprised... Coconut is TERRIFIED of Rascal though. I wouldn't be surprised if Coconut was bullied by his siblings because he is so SUPER gentle I have never in my life seen such a gentle bird.

LOL too funny... so you know what I'm talking about. Coconut literally starts "crying" in this very whiny growling sreeching sounds (this is super funny to see as he throws a tantrum) he also goes on my back and down my back running all over avoiding my hand because he KNOWS I am trying to remove him and put him back on the cage lol

... so I am making the habit of removing him for a few seconds every 10 min or so and putting him back on my shoulder so he realizes it is not ALWAYS he is being put back on the cage... I hold him over a trash can and usually he poops then in the trash instead of on me :)

You have just described Hercules and what he does to a tee. Glad to know it's not unique. I am going to try your strategy and see if that helps 😃

I have two tiels, none are Velcro to me, they are very independent, I kind of wish that at least one would Velcro to me, but I guess, after reading you and mregpm that's not too bad
Plus, they are not bonded to each other neither

Well I thought the new tiel I just got would be independent but it is going to me a massive velcro bird... I know it must be my fault? I mean... all I did was say hello to the bird a couple times and then it triggered it to constantly wanting to be on me lol

When I cup my hands around him he immediately tucks his head into his back and goes to sleep. I don't mind velcro birds... I like it when they are clingy... I don't know how this would work though if someone had many birds... OMG. Then velcro birds might become a problem LOL

Consider yourself fortunate :D. It can be annoying if you have an obnoxious attention getter like Raven! Perhaps your Rascal will become a bit like Robin... he minds his own business and acts fine with it until you go up and try to give him attention, then he lashes out to scold me!

I've had Rascal for almost 4 yrs now (he's turning 4 soon on July 11th)... he has always been a massive velcro bird.... and it looks like my new baby tiel Coconut will be the same... maybe they will bond to each other?... that wouldn't bother me... I would think it is cute :)

I REALLY REALLY wanted a GCC (have never had one before and they seems like such amazing birds)... but I was too worried the GCC might injure Rascal.. plus a GCC would not be able to keep my tiel company... or ever be in same cage etc...

Right now 2 tiels work best... this new tiel Coconut is making me forget about GCCs :D

One day I might still get a GCC but then I will end up with 3 birds! =)

EDIT: I see you reside in SoCal... I am soooo jealous!!!! I wish I still lived there! :(

Soon you'll have two singers!!!
You'll have a blast with them!

Rascal is as quiet as a mouse.... I know this is more on the unusual side for a male tiel but he is SUPER quiet... I always wished he would sing more.

... I'm sure that will change as the new baby tiel is already starting to vocalize and he's singing some very weird sounding tunes... soon they will be singing back and forth to each other ;)
