Senegal-Martini,1 pineapple conure~ Kahlua,1 GCC~ Flare, spl/b, 4 Lovebirds Halo,Tye-Die,Luna,Violet,8 Cockatiels,Num Num&Tundra,8-Ball&Angus,Magnet&Sunkist,Pearl, Blush, 1 gouldian finch, 7 canaries
so just for fun,and on a whim I put an ad on kijiji, saying I am interested in a young weaned baby senegal.
not 2 minutes later, after posting my ad, I receive an e-mail from a breeder who has 1 week old chicks.
he is pulling them in 2 weeks to be fed.

in two weeks time I am going to pick out my baby.

I cannot believe this!!:11:

....he said I could bring it home with me to hand feed it myself.
I want the whole package with this one, feeding, ooooing and awwwing over it, holding it,smothering it in kisses... keeping it warm and snuggy, well you get the idea:D:D

I'd rather do it this way, that way my flock has time to adjust to the baby, and it allows me to train any of them should they have any issues with it.....two come to mind, Kahlua and Flare

two weeks is going to seem like an eternity to me. :30:

Now I am going to educate myself on feeding a senegal, and keeping it warm in a brooder.

YAYYYYY Beth!!! I am SO happy for you!! This just totally made my day!

I can literally see you smiling from one ear to the next! How super exciting!!! WOOT WOOT WOOT!!! :D :D :D

Congrats!!! Just make sure to have the baby vet-checked, just in case. I know some breeders that let chicks go without being weaned already can be sort of shady and some people tend to avoid them. But if everything checks out okay and you're confident the breeder is reputable and not doing anything unhealthy then awesome. Very excited for you, make sure you post us lots of pictures and updates of your baby!!! :)

Edit: I'm sure you already know all this, forgive me for being paranoid hehe. I'm very excited for you. :)

thank you everyone!....You are so right Wendy, I have a permanent smile on my face.....
I've been saving my money and not spending it, on things like toys.

tough to save money when it's just sitting there, waiting to be spent, oh my that is hard for me.
But, I stuck to my guns on this one, and I've almost got all the money.

@thanks Sterling, I know, I hate it..... literally hate it when breeders sell out of the nest, you just sort of loose respect for them right off the bat don't you?

I know this breeder, I met him years ago when I first started breeding, he bought a pair of rosey bourke parakeets from me. he's been in the industry for many many years.
now I'm not sure if he tests his birds for the 4 majors, I highly doubt it. not many breeders do.
by the time the baby is weaned, I'll have sold most of my chicks and have enough money to take him to see Evan, my A-vet.

@thanks Karen, just when I had given up all hope, guess it was meant to be. :)

thanks Michelle, 2 weeks for me seems like an eternity!!....but in reality it's not, so I will wait patiently.... biting my nails & watching the clock, hee hee.

Congratulations. We'll be waiting on pins and needles the next two weeks right along with you.

I am so excited for you, Beth! Seems like all the waiting you have done for the perfect fit is almost over - finally! Only 2 more weeks...and then I want so see all kinds of baby growing up pictures!

Hi Beth. It's Vee with the sennie (Mr.Zeeko). I saw your post earlier about getting a new baby sennie and I am very happy for you! 2 weeks will go by fast...just keep busy with the rest of your flock and before you know it you will be spoon feeding your little baby.
My question is about conures, as I see you own a pineapple and GCC. Do they make good apartment birds? Are they nippy or aggressive? Are they picky eaters? Do males or females cuddle more? Do they talk? Are they screamers or noisy? Which do you prefer a male or female/pineapple or GCC?
I am sorry for all the questions, but if anyone should know the answers I thought you would, especially when you own 1 of each.
Oh!! One more question-Do they need a big cage? Would a Cockateil size cage be ok?
Please let me know - Thanks sooooo much!!!! :)

That's awesome! Senegal's are amazing birds. Rio just ruined one last February. She is finally learning how to play on her back and to be ok with it. Funny to watch.

Congrats! Two weeks will go by agonizingly slow I am sure, been there have the T-shirt. :D

thanks Mr.Z....I will keep my self busy as much as possible.

conures do make very good apt. birds, I've trained mine not to screech too much, I just shoosh them and they have learned to stop.
I went thru many conures:rolleyes:I know embarrasing, and almost shameful, but most bit like crazy, and were down right nasty.

Until I met Kahlua, she is the most cuddly, sweetest, non biting conure.
she will lie on her back on my neck when I am lying down....I have got to remember to bring in my camera for that pic!.....a true cuddlebug in every sense of the word.
I also have Flare, GC - she is very sweet, doesn't bite, and really calm, but is a tad bit more uptight than Kahlua. Now Flare is better with my daughter Sarah, who is 12, and I am happy about that.....

as it turns out, my YS& cinnamon are sitting on eggs at the moment, she has not left the nesting box and I have not had an opportunity to check the eggs to see if they are fertile. I am hoping they are, they were mating like crazy!

my other pair are Pineapple conures, they have been in the nesting box for 2 days now, and I have no idea what is going on.....it's driving me crazy....all I want to do is take a little peek, but I don't want to disturb them, they are more uptight than the other pair, so I'm hoping they are laying eggs as well, or at the very least thinking about it:rolleyes:

sorry, I missed a few questions Mr.Z- they can be a bit noisy, but it's all in the training.
they are fantastic eaters, not picky at all.....good hearty eaters.
I hear cinnamons make the best pets, due to their temperament but I honestly think it's a personal choice, and how much time you spend with them.
a cockatiel size cage is ok, as long as you give them free flight time, about 5 hours is good

Thanks soooo much Beth! I tried to PM you, but haven't gain enough points on this site to have that option. I'm looking into conures as a second child...LOL!
I will look into the cinnamon or pinapple... Although cinnamon was my first choice. Would you know of any good breeders around the GTA that might have babies or someone who has one for adoption? Is it best to go with a baby or older??
Thanks again Beth ... Chat with you soon!
