Kazi - 13 yr old yellow nape amazon rescue
The rescue got in a Hyacinth macaw. She is beautiful and sweet as can be. This is KC, she is 14 and was fed whole walnuts her entire life. Needless to say she's being weaned off of those and onto healthier fare.

I thought you guys might like to see her. This is the first hyacinth I've ever met.

That background looks like the mural at the Wilson Parrot Foundation. Beautiful bird, hard to imagine its at a rescue.

Do want!!! I'd give my left arm (I need my right), a kidney and a sliver of my liver to own one of those beautiful creatures! I can't believe she's a rescue :( How is that even possible????

She's beautiful!I got to hold one and pet it at a local bird show:)

^^ cause some people are really stupid? who wouldn't want such a BEAUTIFUL bird anymore  too bad I'm on the other side of the globus :( I want!!!

It is possible her owners died, or something bad happened to them. If I'm right I know where that bird is located, and I've heard wonderful things about the rescue. I was going to adopt from it but you have to be within an hour drive to do volunteer work and things like that, and I'm just too far :(

Sadly, I think that's the only reasonable way a bird such as a Hy could end up in rescue :( Which makes me so sad to think about.

It is! I was up there taking new pics for the website yesterday after taking care of the birds. There are two up there that I would bring home in a hot second if I thought my husband and Kazi would let me.

KC was surrendered by a wealthy woman who's circumstances took a turn for the worse. She was no longer in a position to afford to care for KC and wanted the foundation to take her so she didn't get sold off as some status symbol or as a breeder.

did you talk to brian about it? I know what the rules say, but I know that he's had volunteers/foster homes/adopters that live over an hour away before too.

Not yet, I'm going to wait till I can get up there to visit and talk to someone face to face.

The problem is I only have my truck right now, I need to get my carolla fixed. It costs me twice as much to drive my gas-eater than it does my little car :>

I bet she's going to be the new star of the rescue, if she's not already!

It's a really great place. The people are good, the birds are well taken care of, and Brian is in it for them, not money or anything else, so he won't just let any bird go with any person. I love the way he runs the rescue and love being up there. Just wish I could get up there more often!

At least she had the birds best interest at heart. I'm sure she's completely heartbroken over it :(

I read a bit of the testimonial page on the website. It was one of the places I was considering 'willing' my parrots if need be. I've been meaning to visit for awhile.

Ha, I bet there is already a line of volunteers willing to foster/adopt her! I better try to go so I get a chance to play with her.

I doubt she'll ever be adopted out. I think Brian fell head over heels in love with her the second he met her and the feeling seems to be mutual :D

But she is lovely and if you can arrange a visit to meet her and the other birds, do so!

She's gorgeous!

Oh I bet! She'll be the new mascot for the place :D

She is beautiful!
