Yesterday, my sisterā€™s jendaya, Loki, while in his cage, was trying to fight Kiwi, my sun conure. I got up and managed to separate them, but not before he left a pretty nasty bite on her toe. I got ahold of her and used some Super Clot gel which disinfected, numbed, and stopped to bleeding. She was bitten at the very tip of her toe and I was worried that her nail might come off, but it doesnā€™t seem like thatā€™s as big of a possibility now. She definitely didnā€™t want me to touch nor did she want to put a lot of weight on that foot, but it was much better after I put the super clot on it. She is back to favoring that foot and Iā€™m wondering what to do. We donā€™t have a lot of extra money to take her to the vet, but we will if she really needs it. Iā€™m keeping an eye on it to make sure that thereā€™s no signs of infection and that it doesnā€™t get worse. Iā€™m just wondering what else I should do. Should I put more of the super clot on it every day (to help with the pain) or should I just leave it? She will walk on it, but when standing, she tucks that foot up to keep off it and itā€™s definitely a littler swollen. Iā€™m also definitely making sure she stays off of Lokiā€˜s cage from now on.

Yipes! Scary!

If you decide to get veterinary help, here are some ideas.
Certified Avian Vets
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians
In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
If none are near you, maybe you could call and ask for a recommendation for somebody in your area.
And... sometimes, distant vets will offer brief thoughts or advice...
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
Or maybe a local breeder might help... again, maybe Google?
