Hey all! I posted a few weeks ago that I joined up with one of those “ugly fruit” subscription services as a way to feed Parker even fresher (outside of frozen chop).

I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now and I’m pretty happy! I made an unboxing video here to show what package day is like - it’s like Christmas almost, except I already know what’s coming in advance since I have a few days to make any changes to the shipment if I want.

Based on the contents of the box I’ll plot what I can do with Parkers weekly chop.

In this order, There’s not a whole lot here I can do for Parker (he won’t touch cucumbers or oranges, potatoes are worthless, and onions are a big Nono) but can try to do something with the lettuce, zucchini, and cauliflower. He loves apples so I can give the apples as a treat. But I’ll definitely need to beef it up with some rice and frozen stuff this week.

Enjoy! I know I am. I’m actually thinking of getting the next size up - this is the mini harvest for 1-2 people. We could stand to have a bit more here.

Hmmm, a cold water clean-up, a sharp knife and its chop time! :D

How do you keep Parker away from the 'box' opening. Unless the box is huge, Julio is (by his choice) chief box opener at our home.

None of that stuff even looks “ugly.” Sort of disappointing lol.

LOL! Unboxing happens as we come home from work long before Parker is released from daily prison. But now I kinda wanna turn him loose on the box to see what happens!

HA! Actually, it IS misleading. Much of the produce actually derivedls from surplus. When we are told of the weeks list, We get an explanation of the challenges associated with each item. . An example I recall of the top of my head read something like “a surplus’s of zucchini production in California means the grocery store has rejected the larger zucchini’s they wouldn’t be able to sell, so you get the benefit!” Or another example “the buyer backed out fo the order at the last minute, so there is a surplus of carrots that need to move quickly”.

The ugliest I got so far was on my first order ever, which contained a celery plant with “too many stalks”.
