Aloha!

Hey everyone again! Hubby is doing fine and well, so I wanted to know if anyone has a lovebird that hates his/her fruits & vegetables.

Hubby is very interesting to me because, he's the only lovebird that I have ever owned that doesn't like to eat or even want to be by fruits/vegetables:mad:. I try to give him small bits and pieces of it from my mouth, because that's when he will usually eat something that is healthy (hehehe, I know it's gross) :32:)

The only thing he will eat is, seed stuff, like chia, sesame, quinoa seeds, hemp seeds. But he will not eat fruits/vegetables. I don't know how to get him started on eating them, but I definitely don't want to go cold turkey on him.

He will only eat unhealthy stuff like potato chips and stuff. :11:

So what should I do to start off? I know I should give him a little at a time.

What have any of you guys have done? And also what do you guys feed your lovebird to start off with.

Again Hubby sends his regards, and much mahalo for your guys expertise and advice!!!

Mahalo & Aloha from Kauai

Hubby is such a cute name! My Basil doesn't eat any fruit. He will eat raw broccoli and cooked peas. Inconsistently. Today I made him a chop of carrots, kale and celery tops. I sprinkled millet in the dish to entice him and he flung all the veggies out to get at the millet seeds. I am interested to see the more experienced lovebird owners' advice on how to get your birdie to eat more fruits and veggies.

My lovie likes his veggies finely chopped. That's WHEN he likes his veggies. He doesn't always. And what he ate today, is not necessarily what he'll eat any other day. You've just got to offer your birds a variety of fruits & veggies, served different ways, and change the selection often. Mine get theirs chopped, mashed, raw, steamed, baked, in chunks, on skewers, in bowls, with clips, and any other way I can think of. Plus, I never make the same combination twice. And still, they eat very little fresh foods!

It's nice to know that mine isn't the only fussy lovebird out there. Today I tried finely chopped banana, strawberry and broccoli. I sprinkled a few loose millet seeds in there. He picked at the broccoli and very carefully managed to find all the bits of millet without actually eating (or even touching) the fruit. What a bird.

First off, DO NOT FEED YOUR BIRD WITH YOUR MOUTH!! Our saliva will kill birds!! Anyways with that out of the way, I dont have a lovebird but I do have a cockatoo who used to hate his vegetables and fruit. What I did was just let him watch me chop it dice it mush it etc and I would mix it with his food everyday. Finally after a month of this he finally decided that he would try the stuff I was "playing" with. Just be persistent. Also do not have your lovebird on a seed diet!!! It so unhealthy and fatty, convert your lovies diet to pellets, I recommend Roudybush or TOPS I would avoid coloured pellets at all costs though.

I too am having problems with my lovebird's eating habits. I'm using a good quality seed mix with dried fruits and vitamins which isn't perfect butit makes me feel a bit better about him eating just seed while I wean him on to new foods. He just rejects veg and pellets at the moment which is annoying. I have tried cold turkey too (no longer than mornng to evening normally)to no avail!
