Hey, I just moved around Sammy's cage dramatically for the addition of a "snuggle hut" and was just wondering what I should add? Remove? Thanks!

Looks nice, you could add a few more perches in there. Also consider Replacing the wooden dowels for some natural branch perches, even if you make your own! Keep an eye on the snuggle hut, if he starts to shred it at all, it has to go!

Ditto on the snuggle hut. Many parrots have died from ingesting snuggle hut material and blocking up their food tracts, conures especially, because they are such chewers and a lot love snuggle huts, they being parrots who like the close feeling they can give.

Great cage and setup, I echo the previous comments! Natural perches that attach to the bars give variety of surface for comfort.

Please check the snuggle hut at least *daily*. They have awful reputations, so if Sammy begins to chew, even a bit, that is a clue to remove! A shame, because they have a terrific shape and give great comfort!

Thanks all for the great replies! If I wanted to make my own natural perch, what woods are safe? We have a lot of maple and oak trees around here, I'd imagine those are okay? Yeah, I've definitely heard a lot of horror stories about the huts 😱😱 I'm watching him like a hawk. Fortunately and unfortunately he has absolutely no interest to go in it or is too scared to. For some reason he's just a claustrophobic bird 😅 but I might simply take it out. It'll make me feel better. Especially with his record of chewing EVERYTHING that gets in front of him (even my hands and face 😣😂

like others, happy hut in the trash! Along with the dowel. I would be careful more so about pesticides and other junk in the tree. For the price you pay I'd go store bought. They're safe, have attachments already and they're pretty cheap. I'd also get a concrete perch to put by his food bowls to keep beak and nails trimmed down.

I'd also get a couple toys to hang lower down and some for the floor. Conures often forage on the floor in the wild so do go down. Rio spent loads of time playing on the floor of his cage.

My JoJo loves to play in the bottom of the cage! As for perches, believe it or not Walmart carries a couple that are very well priced! If the branches come out of your yard, and you know they're completely safe, both Maple and Oak are good! No need to remove the bark, I just jam them in the cage and let them wedge. Your cage is heavily made, so it'll support the branches quite well!

Wanted to add,- happy hut. My JoJo also will not go near, wife's Bongo loves them but chews!
Your guy will most likely enjoy a nice natural perch up high for sleeping! Also pay attention to the diameter of the perch, that dowel looks a bit small!
A wealth of information here!

woven hammocks like these Flying Trapeze Mini are good for sleep too! Rio would actually lie on his belly ruffling his face into the material from time to time. It was definitely where liked to sleep and the toys it came with were among his favorite. I've got a video of him playing with it in his dedicted thread in the conure section

Great advice above. As already mentioned, I'd get rid of the happy hut and trade the dowel perches for natural branches. For the potential risks such huts pose, I don't think they have enough benefits to justify the possible danger. Especially if your guy isn't even fond of it, yet.

Yeah, I saw that video! I was actually wondering where you got it when I saw it because it looks really nice and I know Sammy would absolutely adore it.

In other news I removed the hut... sadly that's $14 gone 😩 but I feel SO much better. I don't think Sammy cares anyways LOL. It's a wonder the company hasn't been sued or anything. Anyways, before I put the hut in he always slept on a wooden sectional natural perch, but he moved back to his rope perch. I hope he'll sleep on the natural perch, but it's the highest perch so I'm hoping :)

Looka good, I notice your walls are white, for now at least. Maybe hang some clear plastic on that wall. Trust me.

Also consider some stuff lower in the cage to do for the bird. Maybe a perch or toy under the bowls that way it won't get crapped on. Perjo likes to go play on the bottom a few days a week, but you gotta stay on top of cleaning it though.

$14?? Where did you go? Petco? 8 bucks at Pet Supermarket! Either way, I would work on making the store eat it and take it back! Be willing to take it in store credit.
I went to a local pet shop, where I got Sammy, but their prices are definitely overpriced... I'll definitely try to take it back, but who knows what they'll do...

If you have the original packaging they ought take it back as these huts have abysmal reputation.

For reference, the second post has an image, more later in the thread: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-toys/38678-list-hazardous-toys-here-please.html

I'm no tree expert, so what tree is this leaf from and is it safe for birds? I have a good branch as well I'll post.

unfortunately I'm out UK way so tricky to get stuff over there. I'm sure you'll have them in the states, things are far more bird-centric than here. I have to travel a good distance to get to any breeder/store that sells birds
