Lake Palo Pinto, Texas
Parrots
Only chickens right now!
My name’s Mitch, and I am a thirty-three year old country boy. I had a sun conure and a cockatoo for years (my sweet baby), but the lady I lived with got the parrontal rights when we went our separate ways, sadly. I haven’t replaced my darling yet, but since I have just moved to my cabin on Lake Palo Pinto in Texas (that’s about forty-five minutes West of Weatherford, for those Texans out there who are wondering–it’s a very small residential lake not far from Possum Kingdom) I am looking into turning part of one of the bedrooms into a cage and building an outdoor aviary on my property and becoming a parront once more sometime in the next year or so.

I am a huge bird lover (I spend a good portion of my days watching the hummingbirds visit the “pubs” on my porch) and an animal lover in general. I am considering going with a Macaw from JC Aviary in Austin this time around, though I am still thinking about what fid I want to welcome to my family and considering where and how I am going to build his or her new environments out at my cabin. One of the upsides of being a handyman is, with so many tools, making bird toys and stands is such a breeze.

Welcome, Mitch! So glad you joined us! How sad that you lost your beloved birds but it sounds like you’re making a fresh start. Palo Pinto is beautiful, I know the area. I hope you enjoy your new home.

Welcome! Sorry to hear about losing your birds, that’s rough. I’m looking forward to hearing about the new baby you bring home! Good luck in your search, it’ll be worth it :)

I. wanted to clear up something with what I said on the first post. I HAVE been on this forum before, last posting in 2017, and I realize now that I made it sound like I was totally new, when I should have said back again after a few years!

I started up a new profile since I shared some personal stuff on a completely different forum with the name I was using here and a person used those personal things against me at work to start some problems. I am sure nothing like that would ever happen on this awesome forum because you all rock, but I still want to start fresh with a new user name so as not to risk anyone managing to trace stuff (I definitely learned my lesson about being careful on the internet—it wasn’t BAD stuff I shared, just the kind of things that uncaring people can manage to use in a bad way if they try, sadly.).

In case you remember me, however, I’m the same guy from Texas who was dad to Sammy the Quaker, Emmit the conure, and Lucille Joy the RB2 before moves to Honduras and separations from exes left me birdless. I apologize if it came off sounding any different! I am definitely not wanting to seem like I am pretending to be someone else, I just want to get away from associating with the internet “history” that lost me a job. Love this forum, and thank you to the mods for helping me get a new forum name so I don’t have the risk I was worried about!

Welcome back ParrontMitch...parront to 'only chickens right now'. :).This is a perfect place for a FRESH start. I have 6 hens and a handsome rooster which we can all discuss in 'other fids'. Look forward to hearing about the new young or rescued baby that you bring home.

A belated "welcome back" to you ParrontMitch! I am already HUGELY jealous of you and your hummingbird "pub" by the shores of Lake Palo Pinto (it sounds so nice!) and I just love hummingbirds to bits, they're like little flying jewels :)

I was lucky enough to snap a picture of what i think is a ruby throated hummingbird (please correct me if I'm wrong!) at Balboa Park in San Diego quite some years ago now. It would have made quite a sight at the time - I was half buried in a shrub trying to get as close to him as I could before he zoomed off again at 1000mph! Isn't he just delightful?

That is actually an Anna’s Hummingbird, or so I believe! The ruby throated have black on the . We don’t get many Anna’s here in Texas. That is an AMAZING picture. I love hummingbirds as well—they are simply amazing, and one of my favorite things in the world is seeing videos of their wings slowed down. It is unbelievable!
