Hello, I have some toys that were sitting in a storage area under my cage for about a year now. They have collected some dust but I wonder how to wash them. I know plastic ones i can just wash under water. Does this go the same for wood and rope toys? Most of the dye is coming off which should be fine right? Also, an unrelated question, does this toy Prevue Hendryx Calypso Creations Straw Stackers Medium Bird Toy: Birds : Walmart.com look safe? I cut the fuzzy part shorter and made sure there weren't any knots, but i just want to make sure.

Water should be fine - I use a bird safe disinfectant sprayed onto a sponge as well to wipe things down every now and then, gets pretty dusty in a cockatoo cage! Worst I can imagine happening is a little dye running.

Normal dish soap & hot water is generally safe for anything washable, then rinse well & just air dry.....

If you want to sanitize something, regular rubbing alcohol usually fits the bill, but let them thoroughly dry.....

Can't speak to the toy.....never seen one.....

I use the dishwasher and no soap. Most dishwashers should get hot enough to sterilize.

I usually burn everything. Just to be sure... just kidding...;)

Yea, food-dye comes off with water. That's why your tongue looks green after eating frosting or whatnot.

Ropes and whatever can easily be put in a vegetable steamer on the stove. That is similar to what medical gear goes through! Wood should not need much since the drying action of wood is naturally anti-microbial. Plastic that's non-porous should clean easily without worry.

I use the dishwasher for everything except wood toys and perches. For those I use a bucket filed with hot water and pet focus or aviclean, then I put them out in the sun to dry.

Please, what's the best way to get dried up poop off wooden things? I hang a wooden abacus in our Lovies' cage and they love it. So much so that it gets whitewashed all the time. It takes *ages* to soak and scrub the whitewash off the little beads! Is there some magic substance out there?

Poop Off, do you have that down under?
