It occurs to me that very few of our members are even aware of this forum's Reputation function, and further, that some may have received positive feedback via this function and remain completely oblivious to it. (Before I was a mod, both situations applied to me. It was only one day that I discovered it by accident and was pleasantly surprised to find several completely unnoticed messages to me.)
So I'm hoping to remedy that for anyone who chooses to read this thread. First, what is the Reputation function? Well, it is a tool that a member can use to add to (or subtract from, but I don't encourage that use of the function) another member's reputation level on the strength of a particular post. Now, having a high or low reputation does nothing for you in terms of your ability to use the forum, how you interact with the forum, or how your profile is perceived by others. Only you can see what has been written about you, and only you and members of the Mod Team can see how many Reputation points you have.
But if it doesn't really change anything for you in terms of your forum interface, some of you may be wondering as to the point of this function. Simply put, it is a way for members to show their appreciation for a post that goes beyond the use of the Thanks button. It's just a nice thing to do, that just might put a smile onto a fellow member's face.
Where is the Reputation function icon located? In the upper right corner of every post, just above the member's Join Date, is an icon that looks like weight scales. If you click on it, you are given the option to add to, or take away from, the member's reputation level on the strength of that particular post. And you are also provided with a field where you can type comments that can only be seen by the poster you are addressing. Note, once you send the reputation, even you will be unable to see what you have written.
Where will the recipient find his/her Reputation comments? Click on the User CP section, and if there are any comments you will find them in a section labeled "Latest Reputation Received" just below the "New Subscribed Threads" and "Subscribed Forums" sections.
Function Limitations: Only one, really. Once you have added to a member's reputation, you have to add to a few other members' reputations before you can add to that particular member's reputation again. This is good, as it prevents members from boosting up one person they really like... or repeatedly subtracting from one person they don't. And also, it encourages us to use the function only when something someone has said really moves us. Hence, it means more.
Hope you all find this helpful. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
