How to tell if beak is overgrown?

I have a blue fronted amazon that I am worried has an overgrown beak. Does it look overgrown?

Yes, the beak looks too long and overgrown.

If you have a bird groomer nearby, they can use a dremel and slowly and carefully shorten it. If you don't have a bird groomer, avian vets offer the same service.

Oh, yes, it is very overgrown. JerseyWendy is right, you need to take him to an AV for a trim but you also need to have a bile acids test on him because contrary to what you will read in many birdsites, a lack of chewing does not cause it, it's always a malfunctioning liver which is usually missed as the normal blood work (CBC and avian chemistry panel) done on them does not reveal it until the liver is only working at 25% capacity and that's why you need a bile acids test: because it's the only thing that will give you an accurate reading of liver function.

The next step is to determine what caused the liver damage because it could be diet (the most common one as people free-feed them pellets and/or seeds and they end up eating way too much protein and carbs) or because the bird ended up with a bad liver from a disease (like chlamydiosis, heavy metal or aflatoxin poisoning, too many antibiotics, etc). And the next after that is too treat the bird (which will be long term).
