so I read that birds like chilli's and I thought that's great I can tie them in my sun conures cage and he can do what birds do. So I did and I think he really enjoyed them as he shredded them and ate their seeds and what not. but after wards when I got him out to play my hand started to burn we he had touch them. it's been two day now and I haven't given any more chillis but every time i get him out where ever he touches starts to burn, so I think he must have gotten some capsaicin on his feathers and feet and I was wondering if anyone else had, had this problem before and maybe knew how to solve it.

I'd think that it would pretty easily wash off with water. Put him under a shower, or spray him until saturated. I think if he isn't a bird who freaks out under the shower, that would be your best bet to get enough running water on him to wash it off. Try that :)

see thats the thing capsaicin is an oil based substance oil repels water

My fids get plenty of hot peppers, including chili, and I've never had that problem. Maybe you are especially sensitive to it?

And just because capsaicin is oil based doesn't mean it will be on your fids indefinitely now. A good, thorough soaking should make a difference.

I got the same problem, you also don't want to give them a kiss at that moment.
I just refresh their water bowl and they take a bath, problem solved.

Lol I've gotten mouth burn more than once after kissing a pepper eating parrot! :)

LOL, sometimes I set a trap for my kids by not telling them I gave the bird some heat :)

My daughter gets up and kisses the bird morning and then its like "Dad...what the heck.... Not Funny Dad !!!" :D:D:D

yeah no I react pretty poorly to chilli's, I mean even if i'm cutting them up to put into some dish, (with gloves on I might add, that i'm not going to eat) I'll start coughing and spluttering. bathing didn't seem to get all the stuff off him, so I figured he need to rub the stuff of onto something else, so I let him roll around on the wet dewy grass this morning, and so long burning hands, ironically though I'm allergic to grass pollen, but at least that was easy to fix, so he had a very wet morning

Aww, glad you solved it - it must have been fun to see him rolling in the wet grass!

Definitely sounds like you have a pepper allergy, I am glad you never eat them. I deal with food allergies and intolerances in my life, it isn't fun!
