So i dont know that the term is for making macaws less sensitive to touch but iv been calling it d-sensitizing :)
So a good friend of mines family is having a family reunion, his family is all about pirates its all pirate theme:) i have joy my 15 yr old blue and gold who anyone can hold she has been held and petted by multiple kids ranging from 2 to 10. Never even thought about biting, she just likes to sit their:) she pretty fearless but alot of people are afraid if her because she likes to growl and bark as if shes saying dont touch me but she really likes the attention and being petted. I belive somewhere in her 15 years she had been hit by someone to cause the flinching and barking?? I can't say she will never bite as she very well can but the chances are very slim my little counsins 4 and 5 try to stick their fingers in her beak and she instantly backs away. I was questioning how would one go apon making her less sensitive to touch?? She just does it when someone first touches her, the reunion is in like 3 weeks, and I think she will have a blast! She loves going to events, we had her at our parade and little kids birthdays she's been to a nursing home to cheer up the elderly:), she just loves the attention! Has anyone had a bird that didn't like the initial touch?? How would you go about making the first touch more of a happy thing? Any advice would be helpful:D

Instead of instant touch, why don't they offer her treats to begin with then touch?

That's a great idea Mikey.
I'd try clicker training her. Click and treat if she doesn't growl.
Have your family join in on that too! She'll soon learn that if she growls, no treat. However, taking touch quietly equals rewards.
