How strong is your Alex's 'shiny drive' ?

How interested by shiny things is your Alex? I am just wondering because the Alex at the pet store that I go to loves to try and pull my rings off, and while it's not painful on my hands, I can't imagine I would be so tolerant if she had tried to pull some of my earrings out. Is this a common Alex trait?

It's not just Alexandrines that like shiny things.....many women need to remove earrings, bracelets & other jewelry before handling their birds, lest the birds remove them for them.....

I am aware that it's not just an Alex trait, however I am looking into getting one and I was wondering if they have a stronger/weaker attraction than other birds, and if it varies between then. I'm asking because at the same petstore, there was also a lorikeet and the attendant said to take my rings off or don't handle her at all because she was way more attracted by my rings than the Alex.

Ozzie loves shiny things, but he would chew on everything that he can get to! :D Alexandrines loves to chew, and that big beak will damage your jewelry, so make sure before handling them, take off them off.

All bird likes shiny things. And when you ask if alexandrines have a stronger or weaker attraction other than other birds, there's no exact answer. Every bird is different.

im one of those people that doesnt remove my jewellry (well was) and oxy loves to play it. one day oxy got a hold of claw on one of my gold rings and ripped the stone out. i now dont wear any rings slthough i do still wear my earings and labret. he tries to go for them but is quicly stopped, im slowly managing teach him no. he also has cracked a few of my psrtners acrylic balls on his eye brow.

Bundii does not really seem to g for the shiney stuff. But loves to chew. The only person's jewellery that she seems attracted to is my mum's. I can wear my necklace, rings, etc and she does not go for them. Must be lucky. Much less expensive this way.

Strangely enough, I have six piercings in each ear as well as my left nostril, and my little guy has never tried to pull or nibble at them!, But he does go nuts for zippers and necklaces, always tries to chew on my white gold chain :p.

Once I had my baby lovebird get tangled up in my necklace. he was on my back and somehow got all caught up in it. he started screeching, and I didn't even know he was tangled, as I could not see what was happening.
I screamed for my daughter, and she came running in to help.
luckily she untangled my little one and he was fine, cuddled right into my neck the poor thing, he was spooked.
I know don't wear any jewellery other than my rings, even my earrings get picked at.

All my birds love to try and bite at my shiny wedding ring (white platinum gold). I always remember to remove it before handling my birds. I also dont wear my dress shirts since they like to grab at the buttons.
