Alexandrine Ringneck,
about to be getting a Jardine's
So my Alex's claws were trimmed three months ago. I never have an issue with them getting too long, just incredibly sharp. He sleeps on a concrete perch, and it's his favorite perch to play with his toys on. I swear it just sharpens them. This is my hand from today.

 YOWSER!!! None of my 4 fids leave marks on my arm.

Is it possible you take an emery board and file them down just a wee bit?

Arg, my hands are in a similar state! Merlin is due a nail trim and Charlie too. Merlin struggles with his 'back foot' in particular because he doesn't use it to perch. I agree with you though, I think the concrete perches just sharpen them!

The length isn't usually the issue (although Charlie's are quite long) but it's just the sharpness. They generally just get 'blunted' at the vets. :)

Gil had very sharp claws and that is the one part of him he freaks out if i try to fuss with. After i had the vet file them down they were perfect for quite a while. Now they are getting longer but still not terribly sharp anyhow. (not enough to scratch me like that or hurt!)

I was going to suggest taking a nail file and just blunting them a little bit. Seems that they are just too sharp, or perhaps it would be worth it to take make a vet appt and have them file them bad boys down!

When I saw the header of your post, I thought 'Hm. Should post pics of my arms'. But then I saw your pic and I don't need to post mine. They're the same. Not only that, but I have identical scratches on my forehead from where the Beaks use me as a landing pad. I'm trying to teach them to come only to my hand, but it's slow going. I do like the nail file idea, but there is no way on God's Green Earth that my Beaks will allow me to hold their feet during such a process. Oh, and yes, they have the concrete perches too. To be honest, I don't mind shedding a bit of blood for my Beaks. I love 'em!

This had me in stitches!!!!!

My friends African gray has TALONS!!! He leaves bleeding scratches all over my arm, many over an inch long. Holding him is literally painful, and I usually clip his nails by the time my visit is over haha. He also has a cement perch that he sits on often, pretty sure it also sharpens them!

Rosie used to have a cement perch as well, and she had needle points. Now Rosie has a safety pumice perch that I can't live without ;) It keeps her nails perfectly filed and at the proper length. I don't remember the last time I had to clip Rosie's nails.

See how the tips are slightly rounded

Kenji on the other hand has a cement perch, but his perch is rougher than any other cement perch I've seen and keeps his nails well rounded and dull(rather than well sharpened LOL)

My Grey also has very sharp claws, in fact his name is actually talon.
When tango was a little bird he started growing some sharp claws but after we got him a pummice perch they filed themselves down now it's not a problem

My budgie is like holding a kestrel or a screech owl...dang it's like raptor talons... We get them trimmed, but i've seen her swipe her nails on her cement perch... sharpening i'm sure... she is fully flighted/flight trained, so I want to train her to do an eagle screech while she flys. :) That would be so cute but kind of terrifying ... kind of a blood curdling sound warning of those talons. :P They aren't THAT bad but sometimes it draws blood when she lands on me :o

my arms, hands, shoulders, scalp and legs are the same, i look like i have gone 10 rounds with a wild cat. i had to wear a halterneck dress to my cousins wedding, for 2 weeks b4 the wedding i made sure to wear a lobg sleeved thick shirt to prevent any marks. not to mention the pain inflicted when i go to get my regrowth done. Scrathched up scalp and peroxcide DO NOT mix. I wouldnt change it for a thing tho. i love my 3 amigos.
they are due to get a nail clip, but i wont do it myself and my vet charges $17.50 a bird. Didnt seem too bad when i only had 1, but now i have 3 and he doesnt do bulk discounts so been putting it off a bit. He recommended i use over sized natural perches with bark to try and keep them dull.... will see how i go now that their cage is full of bottle brush branches (no folage) as perches and swings.

My arms and shoulders are exactly the same. Same again Bundii has the cement perch and her nails are like needles. I think after reading this I will have to get her one of the safety pumice perches.

my branches are working a treat, only had them in for about a week now and the needle points have dulled quite a bit

Pixels claws are VERY sharp. I tend to always have a collection of scratches on my arms and hands.

She has a cement perch, and numerous natural branches with rough bark... I've not once actually had to trim her nails since I got her due to them getting to long, it's always just in an attempt to lessen the bloodletting O_o. So her nails do stay filed down, just that they're filed in to sharp, skin shredding points.
