how old to be for a baby conure to switch to cage?

wondering how old a baby conure has to be to start a new home in a cage
just bought one today
also his 5 weeks is it to soon for bird seed food ect?

Do u know how to hand feed? He can't be weaned at 5 weeks. It also depends on the bird not just what age they r. Some birds learn and grow faster then others.

hand feed with a syringe right now and right now i let him try his first fruit witch was a banana and he liked it his like 5 weeks and flys out of his box were i have him so thats y im asking if his good for a cage
....wat about seeds and stuff is he ready for that at 5+ weeks old???

Whoever sold you a 5 week old baby should not be breeding. I have two 5+ week old gcc that I am handfeeding, one eats some seed one doesn't. It all depends on if he wants to or not. He can go in a cage if he is fully feathered and can perch.

Syringe feed 3 times a day ... So he looks old enough for seeds beg n fruit right?
I fed him orange n banana witch he loved it.
I think its time to stop syringe feeding....?

Well you cant just stop feeding him, you have to wean him off of the formula that's why you shouldn't have bought an unweaned baby. Have you had any prior experience with babies? If you give him food and he eats a whole meal, drop him one feeding, then if he eats another whole meal for at least 1 week, drop him another meal etc.

Hi I would say your baby is approx 8 weeks old. He is old enough to go in a cage. Place a variety of fresh fruits & veggies along with some sprouts all chopped small in the cage. Also some dry seed & pellets. Give him a small morning feed of formula. That will encourage him to start eating from his bowls. At about 5PM feel if there is any food in the crop if not give another feed of formula. By the look of him he isn't to far away from being independent. Maybe a week or two at the most.

Where did you get this bird? They should be fully weaned when sold, and he should have had pellets, seed and fruit and veggies offered to him starting at least a week or two ago. Please research hand feeding as it is very easy to kill a bird if you aren't experienced, or cause other issues. And make sure you wean him correctly, slowly lowering the amount given and giving him longer between feedings. Make sure he is eating solids decent first though. Hes really beautiful. I wish you good luck. But remember, research! I can post links if you cant find info.

Your welcome. If you were given the correct age when you bought your baby it would have be easier for you to know what to do. The breeder didn't do a good job of giving you the right info. In actual fact he should have been weaned by now. But that isn't really a big issue. Over the next week or so just cut down the formula & increase the weaning foods. Your baby will do the rest.

When my GCC'S get to the age of yours they only get 1 formula feed in the late afternoon & through the day get a variety of chopped up foods. It's not long before they have a full crop of food they have eaten themselves. So over about a week i feed less formula or until they don't want it anymore.

Had him for just under 2 weeks n so far doing good i will look into giving him pellets n start the lower doces of feeding . Thanks for ur help
