Blue capped pionus - Bill

Normal cockatiel - Jack

Blue budgie - Tiki
So I'm just wondering how old are some of your birds.

What started this is that Jack (My Old Man, a Cockatiel) is almost 20!!!!!!!!!:grey:

River's just a baby still. He will be 5 months on the 21st.

Mine are 14, 2, 2.5, and 3
The cockatoo is my oldest.

Chico my ringneck is over 30 and going strong.

I was actually looking for an older bird. I love old people, so why not old birds? Puck was about to turn 4 when I got him, so I got a teenager, haha. If I got a bigger parrot I would have probably gotten an older one from a rescue.

Mine start at a 1 1/2, and go up to 13 :)

I have no clue how old Icarus is; I was actually thinking recently about trying to figure out how to age him. Too bad there's no Pyle guide to Indonesian parrots!
Smudgie I'm not sure of either, but Pudgie I know is almost 11 months right now.

Pudge and Smudge were my first pet birds so I wanted to start fresh with youngsters. But in the future I would probably be inclined to adopt an older animal. They're always the hardest to find homes for; they need a champion and they deserve to live out their lives happily and loved.

It is quite amazing to see all the different ages of everyone's babies!!

Basil is only 6..

We are the old ones which is why we have already arranged where he will go when we are no longer alive or maybe able to take care of him..

I feel lifespan is an important factor when taking in any animal..Yours and theirs!

My Jake (hen YNA) will be 42 in Feb,Kia (male Panama Amazon) 36 yrs old,Kong (hen Panama) is 32,Mickie (male RLA) is about 26,Binkie (hen YNA) 24,Stacie (hen YNA) is about 18,Sargent Bailey (male Tiel) is 17,Rose (hen Tiel) 6 months, those are the inside pets. Many of my breeder amazons are in their 30's and some are still in their teens.

My YNA Lila was donated to the Humane society with only her name & her sex given as info so I don't know her age, she is heavy into wanting to mate, 'tho.
My other YNA is 12 years & s/he is a new foster bird, s/he was also just donated to the Humane Society & I am guessing that s/he is another female, but I don't know her sex yet because that info was not given when she was turned in by a relative not her owner.

How old can a bird get before not being a breeder bird??
Some of my breeders have been breeding for almost 30 years and still going strong. That being said i only allow them 1 clutch a year .I would think you could "burn them out" by breeding as many clutches as possible per year but that's not my goal, when i first but that pair together they had a nest box year round and would have 3 clutches a year, maybe more if i'd pull the eggs, but i just need a few babies per year and don't want to over load my market. When ever i do retire them they still have a place in my aviary ,they are so at home with their flock that anything else wouldn't be right.

Our alexandrine is a little over 2.5, her prior parront said that her birthday is feb. 15. I would and have adopted a bird over the age of 15. I sort of inherited our goffin and she was around 20 and we adopted a citron that was almost 11. I don't really think age is a big deal when it comes to parrots, I have met 6 month old parrots with outrageous behavioral problems and 30 year old ones that act like saints and vice verse.
