One Green Cheek Conure: Tori
Hello! My little baby is a Green Cheek Conure, and I have been told he's extremely quiet for a conure.

He really doesn't chirp much at all, preferring to talk and say things like "Good bird" and "hi tori" instead. (I think he noticed I talk back to him when he speaks)
He does chirp when he wants attention occasionally, and he only sometimes chirps at night, and never in the morning. Most of the time he's quiet and just sits in his cage at his food bowl, or on his pedi-pearch and watches us. He loves to hang from his bell ball and make his "playing" noises which I just adore.

I've heard that conures usually chirp a lot more than my little Tori bird does, and I was wondering if that is true. So if you'd like, please let me know your experience with Conures and how much they chirp. Thanks!

My Nanday has quite a variety of bird noises. I changed her contact call to, "Hey hey!", but she has an alarm screech, chirps, little sounds when she is happy, and one that sounds like "Uh oh! Uh oh!" She also talks a lot. She is very vocal in general.

Chirp? I WISH Clifford would chirp. He is either talking in english or sun conure babble, or hes screaming. Its LOOOOUD. He is getting better as he adjusts to his new home, and I'm trying to teach him to say "where are you" instead of screaming to locate me.
Sometimes when he is talking to his toys he makes a little squeeking noise...
But he doesn't chirp. Tell Tori to teach Clifford how when he learns!!

Con clucks like a chicken when its bedtime. Screams when I walk out of sight until I call back, and only makes chirping noises when she's begging and I'm not paying attention. She likes to talk to me in the morning when I tell her good morning. We have little conversations of her mainly saying step up, what, and hey. She refuses to say any other words that I taught her, the little brat.

Tori has a, as my boyfriend calls it "Machine gun chirp" That he does when he sees my boyfriend leaving the room, but thats the loudest, and actually only scream that he does.

sometimes he'll do that, then scold himself by saying "be a good bird Tori!" then he'll babble a little bit in a quiet voice, then tell himself "good bird" a few times. It's so funny when he does that!

Sounds about right. My green cheek conure is also fairly quite. She only screams once in a blue moon, and mostly chips quietly or talks when she wants attention.

My Sun and Jenday Conure will make LOUD screams for a warning call. Luckily they don't do it too much. Sometimes a little in the morning while I am preparing their breakfast. They make other little quiet sounds the rest of the time (trying to talk). My blue crown conure will make a really loud call in the morning and if he gets bored. So I try for him to never be bored. The rest of the time he talks alot, which just amazes me for a conure. Does anyone here have a blue crown conure? Just wondering if they all talk as good as my guy does. I have had him for about 4 weeks now is all, and he is really amazing!!

I had a Blue Crown until she died of a stroke in October. She almost never stopped talking, lol! And she was really loud and clear and sounded human. She also put all this emotion into everything, which I found very endearing. It was always, "HHHIIIII!" and she would trill out, "Pretty bird" like she was singing it. I swear I didn't teach it to her that way, but that was her special twist on it. And after something scared her like my dog, and then the dog ran into the kitchen she would say, "Good girl" but with all this relief in her voice. She was really hilarious and I miss her terribly. I was afraid though that if I got another I would constantly compare it to her, and I didn't want to do that. But, we had conversations all day, too.

Oh Roxynoodle I am so sorry to hear that!!! That makes me cry! How old was she? Mine "Mozzie" (that's where my name came from) talks all the time too, but he still has a parrot voice. Not a real clear human voice like my African Grey "Peppers". However you can understand him. He always asks me "what ya doing?" and I proceed to tell him whatever that might be. Maybe Blue Crown's talk better than other conures. I have never been around another one.

She was only 10.5 so I was not the least bit prepared or expecting something like that. People always thought she was a person talking. And yes, all day, "Whatcha doin?" And I would tell her, lol! If she liked my answer she would say something like, "Good girl!" She called me by my name all the time, too. So it would be like this:

Briana (bird): Audrey?

Me: Yes, Bri?

B: Whatcha doin?

Me: I'm grading papers, Bri

B: Good girl!

Me: Thank you, Bri, you're a good girl, too!

It was very tempting to get another Blue Crown, but I didn't want to find myself saying, well, Briana did this or Briana did that. So I got an amazon instead. He's turning into quite a talker, too, but he has a high voice and he isn't as loud as she was. But, it's much easier to see him as his own special bird I think rather than having another of the same species, especially back to back. And now I have the Grey as well, who isn't so much a talker as an imitator of strange sounds. However the Grey is as sweet and cuddly as Briana was. And the amazon has learned how to say, "Whatcha doin?" and the Grey has learned how to sort of trill out, "Pretty bird". She is not as dramatic in how she says it as Bri was, but it's pretty close.

And today the Grey said my name, although she said it in her deep, scary monster voice, lol!

That is amazing!!! You would expect that from a Cag but a conure usually doesn't have that ability. She sounds really special!! That is way too young to have a stroke!! I can't imagine how hard that must of been for you! It's not going to be good when anything happens to any of mine!! I don't do well with anything like that. I really am sorry to hear about that! I hesitated on getting Mozzie only because I already had 4 (well one is officially my son's). But I am so glad I did. He is so much fun! I about fell over when he started talking, just because My Sun and Jenday can't talk well at all. They try, bless their hearts, but it is hard for them. When Mozzie talks he moves his head up and down. It's really cute. I hope I didn't get you depressed with this subject. Sorry if I did. And again I am very sorry for your loss!

Amazons are really cool too. The one we have is actually my son's and she adores him. She is very cuddly with him, but she won't let me cuddle her. She is very much a one person bird. We got her when she was 20 from a rescue. She didn't have a good back ground. She was ignored really badly, so she never learned to talk. She has learned Hello since she has been with us, but that is about all she says. But she is the sweetest bird you could ever meet. She is like a totally different bird from when we got her. It's really cool to see the change in her. But I am opposite you, Our Cag "Peppers" talks like crazy!! She is really cool too. I just love all my babies so much!!!!

Well, when I tell now about all the special things about her, sometimes I actually smile now. But, I also know I'm still in mourning. Yes, she was her normal self all day, and an hour after they went to bed I heard her just fall. And she died in my hands in about 1 minute. I thought I was going to have her another decade or even 2.

Rowdy knows a lot of words, but she doesn't quite put all that emotion into things, and if I'm on the phone, generally people aren't hearing everything she is saying like they did with Bri.

So, no Pete and Merlin weren't expected to be part of my life. They came because of Bri passing. But, I guess I was meant to know and enjoy them, too.

My amazon is quite cuddly as well. And like yours, his situation wasn't so great. He was in a tiny cage, no toys and eating Walmart crap seed. I got him converted to pellets, fruit and veggies, and he is 100% more active now. I'm amazed how many new things he has learned to say because he is 29. His laugh is one of the most hilarious laughs I've ever heard. If I take him somewhere and he starts laughing, everyone within 100 feet has to come see him.

I am sure it takes a long time to get through the mourning period. But it is good you can think of her and smile now. And yes I guess these others were meant to come into your life too. I am sure they are very lucky to have you!!

I see your zon is a Blue Front. I bet she will start talking, especially if your son teaches her. I didn't know if Pete would learn more words at his age, but he is learning new things left and right. And most of the new words Merlin has learned, I think she learned from him. They are also speaking in each other's voices so if I'm not looking at them, sometimes I'm not sure who said it.

Your amazon sounds awesome Roxynoodle! Usually blue fronted amazons talk really well, but Casey just doesn't seem too interested. Either way, she is way cool! It sure is amazing how much they bring into our lives!

Wow that is horrible for you roxy.Ive always wanted a blue crown but Im afraid the noise would drive me up the wall.

My greencheek is rather quiet too.She can get excited and loud but only when I vacumn or someone comes home. She does say some stuff but I dont know what it is.Like Paco, he talks too but half the time I have no idea what he is saying, .
