I need some answers from people who really owned a quaker.

So we are going to bring our first quaker in the next two weeks. I have been reading and a lot of peole are saying quakers are nasty for being LOUD. We are renting a townhouse with neighbors on both sides. The qualer will be placed in the living room where we usually stays. I'd like to know your honest answer base on your experiences with the quaker, how loud they are? Will my neighbors be bothered by their screams?

Let me know please.

They can be loud! But with proper training they can be very quiet. And about your Townhouse, it depends on how good the sound proofing is in your walls....When I used to live in a Condo, my neighbors never complained about Willie the Macaw...

When I used to have Cracker, while I was staying with my family temperary Cracker was in my bedroom. When he start to make noise when the sun rises with his first peep, I would say quiet time. He stop immediately and don't even move to make any noise until I wake up. My family witness this when they heard me to tell him to quiet down and they find him to be so smart and cute. He was the ONLY bird my family liked, they're finicky with birds in the house but they did not mind him at all. They all interact with him on a daily basis cause they liked him so....

My quaker will yell at a toy or whatever but it only lasts for mayby 5 min at a time. but the pitch and volume are much lower than the bigger parrots that I have heard. It happens mayby 2 or 3 times per day and I can't imagine it bothering someone next door.:)

I must have the oddball Quaker because mine is pretty quite. She will contact call for me when I leave her sight but she quiets right down after a minute or two. I have yet to hear her scream. :)

Thank you! Maybe we'll just wait and see. I know they are individuals but as much as possible I wanted to be really ready.

There are lots of Quakers who aren't aware of their reputation for being loud. Ralph is one of them-- he's a pretty quiet Quaker, and no one around here is disturbed by his normal vocalizations. On the other hand, I once met a Quaker in a pet store who was winning a shrieking contest with a Sun Conure, so Quakers are capable of being noisy.

cooper is not super loud, but just chirps a lot. they aren't really loud though but he just keeps going. then a few times a day he screams.(like all birds) when he is out and with me he is very quiet. and contact calls a lot too.

Some Quaker are loud like my lil Tuukee, however i very much encourage it. im teaching him quiet now and he's almost a yr next month. my neighbors hear him but haven't complained bc when he goes to be at night he is quite the entire time- he's sleepin. if you work from him its easy to quiet them down either a bath, food, attention/affection, toys, or they're just cage singing.

now my husband and i work from home and are night owls, Tuukee goes to bed every night between 1am-2am and we wake him up around the same time as bed the next morning- to ensure he gets his full 10-12hrs of sleep so that the babe is not grumpy or not acting like his/her happy lil self. Tuukee is learning the quiet behavior command. we started to tonight and he went in his crib w the doors closed- where he quiets down instantly (he is never in there only for sleeping. always on top or perches or playgym.) so he sees its punishment and i tell him quiet and i put him in for about 5 min and ask him if he wants to try again and if he squawks again i give him quiet warning and then if he wants to beak back i put him in there and literally after the third time Tuukee understood what i meant when i told him to shhhh.

if your neighbors work during the day- you dont have anything to worry about.
if your cool w your neighbors and let them meet him/her then they'll most likely tell you to your face then report you to the front office or leasing house. either way. my neighbors met him and love him and never complained.

lol im probably jinxing myself ;)
