I wanted to get my cockatiel some pellets instead of his seed diet, and I was wondering how much a bag of 1 pound of pellets last a cockatiel. Should the pellets be fed in meals or just put them in a bowl from the beginning of the day? what should be the quantity? Thanks

HI Only_speed:

I don't know, all birds are different.
I have to offer new food severals times before Levi will even try it.
You could start by just adding a few to his reg food & increase the amount as you decrease the seed mix. You could also grind it up & sprinkle it over the seed mix or his wet food.

Is this your first bird?

My BB gets fed (among fruits a veggies) Zupreem Fruity Blend pellets and it is a two pound bag. I give him three cups of pellets along with 1/4 cup of his breeders own "house blend" cockatiel seed mix and an occasional small piece of millet. His pellets get changed every other day and a two pound bag lasts about a month, but as mentioned he gets other goodies also.

Sometimes it's hard to get a bird eating pellets, can take time and work if they haven't eaten pellets before. I leave pellets available at all times, and I also try to trick tgem into eating pellets by mixing them in soft food, and hand feeding them as treats. My parrots have learned I offer them yummies by hand, sometimes I offer pellets by hand and they think must be extra special so they eat em. ;)
