Howie - Vos Eclectus, Kiku -Quaker
I've been wondering if I should get a happy hut or snuggle thing for my eclectus. Would he use it? Does anyone else have one for their ekkie? Kiku my Quaker loves her happy hut and sleeps in it everynight. I feel bad that Howie has nothing, but then again maybe that's what he likes? Very interested to know how everyone else's ekkies sleep or if they use a bed of some sort. :D

Hello again
I tried to get him a happy hut once but my Eccie passionately and violently defends his cage against any 'fluffy' interloper! He will attack and growl and attack for ages until he is certain he has killed it. Not keen on sleeping in it!!

TBH he sleeps in my room on the other pillow (my husband is away a lot for work so we are eachothers only company) but he isnt much of a cuddly sleeper. He isnt very impressed at getting up at six am, and once Im up he is out for about 2 hours until I go to Uni, where he then goes to sleep for about 4 hours (i set up CCTV ...im a geek) then wakes up, has a couple of hours till I get home then is out all afternoon and evening until we go to bed together at about 1030pm. This is a bit of a different routine than most people have but it works really well for us. He like to sleep in on the weekends and if he wakes up before me he just watches me quietly until he sees me open my eyes, then he waddles over and starts grooming my eyelashes ever so gently, muttering, morning darling, morning darling...then we either get up or very occasionally he will burrow in under the covers and have another little nap.
(p.s. When husband is home from work in Tahiti, bird sleeps in his cage, which he doesnt mind at all). He is very adaptable as to where he sleeps. If I stay up too late he will climb down the curtain and yell GOODNIGHT DARLING in my ear to let me know its bedtime =)

You could give it a crack with a happy hut but youd need a big one - and all the safety issues etc need to be taen care of which im sure you already know about!

How is he settling in? All going well?

My Ekkie has had a snuggle in his cage since the day I brought him home, but he has yet to even touch it. He seems to pefer sleeping on one particular perch with his head down instead.

Mrob you have quite the relationship with your birds I love it! I think I might as well give it a try if he doesn't sleep in it he can always just play with it. Kiku hated hers for the longest time. Then one night I couldn't find her and saw tail feathers poking out of the tent, she was snug as a bug. Things are going great! I'm taking it slow with him, by just having him out with me laying on the couch, and cooing at each other. Those sweet little coos are so adorable! Yesterday he took a 30 min nap on my stomach with his head tucked in his back. I will tell you though that sweet potatoe mash idea is GREAT! He chows down on it, you HAVE to keep recommending it. The first day I finely chopped up a bunch of different fruits and veggies and he nibbled here and there not much though. I was worried because he didn't take in a lot. Now if I put anything in the mash he woofs it! He loves that its warm.
