This is something I’ve been thinking about and it gets weirder the more you think about it.

Everything is GINORMOUS and scary, you can probably see UV light, you walk on grippy things and fly with flappy things, your bones are an extension of your lungs, and you can be friends with giant monkeys that can be anywhere from 4 to 100 times your size, these giant monkeys have little hair and have weird “feathers” that they can change when they want, some can wear strange clear things on their faces, and others can have dangerously colored hair (bright colors on animals are usually perceived as toxic or dangerous), these giant creatures can move your around and give you food, and they get very entertained by you and show their teeth yet reward and laugh about it, and yet, you trust them. There’s a lot more to this but it is really REALLY weird to think about. Hard to imagine myself in Rico’s shoes!

I think about this all the time too! Not just for Ona but for my dogs too. How interesting it would be to see the world through their eyes.

I am really curious what parrots think of us. Do they think we are just a weird large parrot? Do they know how different we are from them? I think they most likely know and see us as a different species. But like you said, do they think our clothes are feathers? 😄 It is very interesting to think about.

I know right! It is so interesting to ponder and a bit frustrating to not know. I think hand raised parrots may see humans as the same species as them but parent raised almost definitely know we aren’t the same species as them. I wonder what Rico thinks of my dog? She would never harm him but he certainly likes to scare her at times. Same with me! He has hidden 3 times now and watched me panic and tear up my room looking for him. That’s why I have an album on my phone of him singing called “Find My Bird” so I can play it and have him respond so I can locate him. Human intelligence can be frightening!

The problem is all based within your view of their world!

From their stand point, it is all part of living and the day to day events that enter their world. In the wild, things also change as they move within it. Understanding that their base requirement is finding food an water, once handled it is off to other things. The fact that you bring the food and water come paired to their finding it, commonly places it as only a tiny change. Get food, do other things.

Yes, we represent a challenge based on our seemly on-going change, but light in their natural range will change as will colors as the effect of shade and direct sunlight result in change as well.

Remember they are working at the level of what things have a history of being dangerous and which have a history of being safe.

When our big Double Yellow-Head Amazon flys by, it is clear that he Is changing his flight pattern to place himself closer and adding a couple of deep cut to place a ball of air over us. But he will on other times request a ride. Point being they are enjoying /playing within our shared world. They accept the world as it is and find joy within it!

Our great joy is that they choose to include us in their World! How lucky we are!!

This is super smart and technical and I LOVE IT! It does put a more realistic look into it than just “hee hee monke gib food”.

And we are super lucky to be a part of our birds’ lives!
