How do you 'end' a training session?

I'm trying to teach my Eclectus to talk, and I understand that the training session should be fairly short. The problem I'm having is how to end the training session... (so he knows it's over)

When Kiwi is out of his cage I put him on a portable playstand. That's also where I train him as I don't have anywhere else to train him. I have him in with me on my home office so he can hang out while I'm working. After about 20 min I want to end the session, but he keeps randomly saying "hello" (and expecting treats I suppose)

I say hello back, and I do randomly give him a treat..

I've tried putting food in his bowl after training. That keeps him busy for a bit. I just feel bad when says hello again, it's as if he doesn't know training is over and I don't want to frustrate him by not rewarding his hello's.

any ideas?

I don't want to train him in another room, but I have considered that might help differentiate the training session from just hanging out. This room is good as there are no distractions like in the rest of the house.

I know training sessions shouldn't be too long, and also I do have some work/studying to do, so I want him to learn to hang out on his perch while I'm working.

I fear if I don't respond to his talking I'm not reinforcing it.

Thanks
Nathalie

VERBALLY! :D Each time Kiwi says "hello" tell him GOOOOOOD BOOOY! And then say "hello" back. Or you can add a word..."hello Kiwi" "hello baby" "hello sweetie"..... ;) That should make it a bit more interesting AND challenging at the same time.

Treats are GREAT, but they aren't always needed or aren't always necessary. Eckies are GREAT talkers. Wait and see. Now that he's said his first word, before long he'll be talking your head off. :D

If you are uncertain about how to end a training session, give him a little task when you put him up/away/in his cage..... Put a small treat in a piece of a paper towel for example. AND tell him "All done for now, see you later alligator", or something along those lines. The more you talk to him, the more he will understand. :)

Thanks :)

He's funny, he talks loud when the vacuum cleaner is on, but when we're training he has a baby voice, lol.
