For those of you with very large cages, how do you cover it at night?

Mardy comes home from the breeder's in a few weeks. I need to make a cover for his/her cage. The cage is much larger than the cages I'm accustomed to for my daughters' Sun Conure and Hahns Macaw. With those cages I can slip a home made cover over the top of the cage and it will settle nicely around all sides.

Mardy's cage is 40" deep, by 50" wide, by 6' tall. That is too tall for me to slip a cover over the top. I'm considering making a wrap-around to cover the sides and a loose top that I can toss over the cage roof.

Also, what material do you use? Or if you purchased a commercial cover, what material is it made of?

I just use a sheet or a nice blanket and it works just fine on my bigger cages. All you have to do is leave the bulk of it on top when you go to put them to bed I just grab and pull it down. When I uncover I put it all on the top until i repeat pulling it back down next night. Believe it or not you can purchase a larger cover for that size cage but it can be pricey a sheet or blanket is much more economical. cages by design is a sponsor here or at least i see their ads check them out they do sell the bigger covers still i believe.

I have a very large king cage for the Green Wing and have to use 2 king size quilts. Thanks Joe

Jade is in a very large King's Cage (model 506) which is 3'x4'x6.5'. What we used is an old full sized sheet. Then I cut 3 small holes in it and used zip-ties to secure it to the back of the cage. In the morning, we just flip it up and to the back then at bedtime we can just pull it down over the top and front. It doesn't completely cover the sides which is fine so Jade gets fresh air.

We've done the same with Ruby's cage. We tried with Max's cage but he keeps biting throught he zip ties. The sheets stay pretty clean but when I need to wash them I just cut the zip ties and throw them in the washer.

yeah, i've got a double duvet cover cut in half that i use to cover angel with.

I had someone make a cover for me. (Only because I can't sew) I bought the material very cheap at craft store. Just a few times through the sewing machine is all it takes!
