Hi to all. Its been quite a while since I last visited. Time flies. Anyway am wondering if there are peppers that are TOO HOT for amazons? Or any that should be avoided.

Parrots as a group, seem to have a Love for peppers and with some the hotter the better. Most Parrots make their Owners look like wimps with regard to the level of hot peppers. As a group, there is no way to tell if your Parrot is a 'Hot Head' , or will refuse any peppers.

My Salty seems to be a hot head. His current chop mix is heavily based on all kinds of peppers, from red bell all the way up in hotness to ghost peppers and Haber . He loves his chop. It is in fact too hot for us to eat, but works great to season up sauces and stuff. My first parrot, a YNA, Winston, would eat dried red peppers whole, and they were too hot to even touch, without having to wash one's hands after.

Thing is, parrots actually have no capsaicin receptors. And since capsaicin is the component of peppers that makes them taste so hot to us, our birds have no idea why their human companions are watering up, turning red, or fanning their mouths.

So, in short, you have no need to worry when it comes to peppers. Great source of vitamin A!

I know that this is an old thread but I see some people that commented on here that I recognize. My Ekkie pretty much only eats peppers, and baby carrots for fresh food. I never thought to give him the habaneros, or ghost peppers. I’m going to give it a try

I was gonna say this thread is like 6 years old...Yes peppers and parrots made a deal,spread my seeds and you can eat some of me.

We actually grow Carolina Reapers..as I'm actually from North Carolina. And Teeko seems to love them very much..and that's pretty much the top of the list lol.

I have not yet found a pepper too hot for the Rb himself, BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT... after he chomps up a ghost pepper and then wants a cuddle, I feel like I've been maced!
