Hey guys, I thought it might be fun to talk about horror movies that are known for being "terrifying", when they actually aren't. Obviously there's going to be spoilers.

The Shining
I watched it this year with my cousin. I've always heard people talking about how scary this movie is, so I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. It turns out this movie is actually quite boring. And annoying. Like, when the kid is riding around on his tricycle, it's SO LOUD! And the part where the kid's watching The Roadrunner Show. Until now, I hadn't realized just how annoying that theme song is. There's a bunch of other boring and/or strange things in the movie, but I think the part that really highlights how "dumb" (no offence to anyone who loves/is terrified of the movie) this movie is, is the scene at the end when !SPOILER! Jack (is his name Jack? You know, the father) is found frozen solid in the hedge maze, with the stupidest look on his face.

Oh, and I just remembered something else! I almost forgot about that weird kid thinking a little boy lived in his mouth, and he'd have conversations with his finger/the boy. If the boy was in his mouth, why was he having weird finger-bending conversations?

Gosh, this scene's annoying: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FLjixsUEj5E

The whole time, I was hoping Jack would kill his stupid wife. Sadly, he didn't.

The Sixth Sense
I saw this when I was maybe 12, and I didn't find it scary. I found this movie absolutely heartbreaking. I cried for a long time after I watched the movie. When my mom walked in and was worried because I was crying, I told her that I'd just watched The Sixth Sense (when she watched it when it came out, I think she said she found it creepy, as did my father). My parents were surprised by how upset I was after watching it. Even at such a young age (well, not THAT young), I didn't find it creepy. That part when the kid goes to that wake or whatever...was absolutely depressing. Like, my gosh, that poor girl. Such a betrayal of trust by someone she trusted! I found that scene really disturbing and heatbreaking.

Or that part where the SPOILER about one of the main characters is revealed. I think we all know that SPOILER. The realization when said character finds out the truth is just so sad! Man, that movie was just depressing.

Child's Play (aka "Chucky")
This movie wasn't scary. Dolls are creepy as heck, and a movie with a creepy doll possessed by the spirit of a killer should be TERRIFYING. It was not. I saw it last year with two of my friends. My one friend was absolutely terrified, but she's an absolute whimp. She was freaked out when we watched some episodes of Goosebumps (that series was terrifying when I saw it when I was 5, but it turns out it has really bad acting and that none of the episodes are actually scary...), so the fact that she found Child's Play scary means nothing. I mean, this girl fainted from watching a video in class on "digestion".

Anyways, this movie is actually kind of funny. The characters are incredibly stupid. Especially the doctors (and were there cops? If there were cops in the movie, they were stupid too). Somehow, the tiny doll is able to push a fully grown woman out of an apartment window. I don't really remember it all that well, but I wasn't creeped out at any point. To be honest, I think I was actually rooting for Chucky to kill all of those stupid people.

Poltergeist (original)
My parents (at least my mom) always said this movie was terrifying. It was not terrifying. Can't really remember it, but it was creepy in the slightest.

Alien (the first one). Just saw it in a movie theater a couple of weeks ago. 1979 horror plays more like parody on 2017. I kept wanting to bust out laughing. I did not, because I was with my boyfriend and some other friends and they all loooooove this thing.

But really take that scene right before that mechanic guy gets SPOILER eaten. He's walking through the bowels of the spaceship and there are randomly chains hanging down everywhere and then he finds someplace where water is dripping and he takes some sort of weird shower in it? Like WHAT IS THAT WATER COMING FROM? Why is it randomly dripping? Why is he showering in it? Why doesn't the alien hurry up and eat him?

This is a great thread! I love horror movies.

The Shining -- I LOVED IT. I'm all about the weird murder hotel vibe and there were lots of strange things going on in this movie. Danny's weird 'shining' power, Jack's weird scene with the naked attractive -- SIKE -- old and ugly woman, the creepy heart beating, the twins wanting Danny to 'come play with them', the red rum scene, Jack's creepy a*s book, and the chasing with the axe, his screaming wife, lol. The whole time you wish she just got axed. The maze part was kind of cool. I could watch that movie any time!

The sixth sense -- This movie actually really creeped me out the first time I saw it. I think it was the scene where the kid stops in the school and turns, and sees all the hanging dead people on the rafters...I think I peed myself at that scene. The ending is sad, I will admit.

And Chucky! Oh, that was what I watched with my friends when I was around 10-12. It was so hilarious, one of the first creepy doll movies I had ever seen, and I probably would change the channel if I saw it on tv, lol. The Bride of chucky was okay, the fact that the dolls did it and had a baby doll is pretty bizarre LOL.

Some of my recommendations...

- Evil Dead ! The original was just so messed up, it had me laughing. The guy is in a cabin and I just remember the scene with the deer head on the wall coming to life like part of the guy's hallucination, it was SO bizarre that I was just like...WHAT IS THIS.

- Sleepaway Camp -- a classic 80's kids camp where there's a murderer on the loose. The whole time you're trying to figure out who it is, but the acting was so funny at some parts, it's actually an annual movie I watch every year with my hubby and his parents, who are diehard classic horror movie fans. And the ending totally just throws you for a loop, definitely unexpected. Will never forget that last scene!!

- Annabelle - the doll movie that recently came out, it was just NOT scary to me one bit. I saw it and went....this is it??

- Cabin in the Woods - A different take on the classic horror movie and sort of combines ALL of them. A company basically is in charge of making human sacrifices every year to the 'gods' under our earth that threaten to destroy humanity if they aren't given sacrifices, and in turn the people getting sacrificed have to 'choose' their own horror. All these entities, ghosts, spirits, demonic forces, zombies, monsters, etc are all kept in a freaking warehouse underground and locked up only to wait to be released. I actually am a huge fan of this movie, it's meant to be scary but I found myself really enjoying the different take on it and hoping the characters survived. The ending wasn't great but wasn't terrible either.

Pet Sematery (misspelling?) was so bad it was hilarious. The book was much better.

Incidentally, my mother can't handle even B movie scary and says I'm warping my mind when I watch something violent or scary. She fails to take into account how silly most of this stuff is. XD

I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, though most are not genuinely scary. The only author in the genre I enjoy is the great Stephen King! Under the Dome, It, Shining, Christine, and most enjoyably 11/22/63.

I dont get scared easily, but a few movies made their mark upon me.

The Crawling Eye - a Fifties monster movie, I saw it the theatre when I was like 4 or so. I was screaming so much my Dad had to leave with me. Now, it's just some dumb monster movie.

The remake of The House on Haunted Hill. Saw that with my oldest son when he was 18 or so. Scared the crap out of both of us.

I usually don't find horror movies very scary, what usually gets me are the jump scares lol
But if they play with your mind a bit and there's a lot of suspense, I love those! Thriller/horror, good stuff

Have you seen 'Room 1408'? I remember when I watched it, granted I was younger, but it really freaked me out, made me feel like I was mentally claustrophobic, it was such a weird feeling. If you haven't watched it, I'd highly suggest it :)

Ooh 1408 is a good one!! Can't go wrong with Samuel Jackson. It's a mind/time trip!! Like being in a bad dream f in one creepy hotel room. I thought 'It" was SO freaky to me as a kid. The remake is coming out soon!! I'm not sure if I have the courage to see that one!

Any Nightmare on Elm Street / Freddy Krueger fans out there?!!! Those all were huge when I was in about 5-6th grade! Watching them again nowadays makes me realize how silly some of the scenes were, almost comical. The first one always was the scariest to me, with Nancy (main character) turning to see her dead friend in a bloody body bag in the hallway. That always got my skin crawling.

And the original Halloween!

Ok in the B horror genre - not scary at all, truly horrible, and possibly my favorite movie of all time: The Microwave Massacre. It stars Jackie Gleason and a microwave. Ridiculous to the highest degree.
