I'm so busy with taking care of my fids that I have the feeling you all "intuit" what's going on without having to tell you. I may have mentioned a while ago that the mother of a colleague has Alzheimer's and wants to let her parakeet and canary "go" because she thinks the birds have to be free. Well, she almost succeeded. Her daughter found both birds out of their cages (which were slightly larger than a shoe box and had only one perch) and called me for help before her mother remembers that windows need to be opened for birds to fly out....

Needless to say (sigh) Eva the parakeet, and Gigi the canary are now safely housed in nice big cages that aren't flaking and have more than one perch. Sheesh.

Eva has a broken toe and Gigi has no feathers around her neck. Both look like birds of paradise that have fallen into muck and disgrace. The only good think about them is that they both love veggies and baths, and that they are alive!!! They seem to be bonded in some way, they sleep next to each other (each in their own cage) and Eva keeps calling for Gigi - I know it sounds stupid because Gigi is a word every parakeet knows how to say :) hahaha but Eva really MEANS Gigi, it sounds different when she calls for her canary friend.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that both of them have heavy metal poisoning because the "gold" on their cages was flaking off and all I saw was rust underneath. They are both still in quarantine but the vet appointments have been made and we'll have them tested next week. I hope I'm wrong with my fly-through diagnosis based on the appearance of the cages, and hope I can get Gigi to be a bit more healthy. She honestly looks like carp. SP error intended. She has NO feathers around her eyes !!

I have been told by my house inhabitants that the little birds are way louder than the Quakers, and whoever told me that was RIGHT. Besides, Eva and Gigi make twice the mess my other parakeets make.

Aw, how absolutely sweet. The budgie who has a canary friend and calls her name :). They are 2 lucky little things thanks to you. Keep us posted with the vet results! Hoping they're well, and with some love and care they'll be just as nice on the outside soon!

So you've been holding out on us?

Congratulations on your new adoptees! It was very kind of you to take in these little guys. Best of luck with Eva and Gigi, I know they'll thrive in your care.

You know we'll need to see photos! :)
