Apollo the sun conure. Hatched in mid-January.
In addition to our 6 month old sun conure, Apollo, my wife and I have a 10 year old chocolate lab, Abraham. Abraham has recently started bring in fleas. I think it's my fault for not keeping up with the flea meds this past year. Anyway, they are now in our carpet for sure, and maybe our furniture. I am going to treat the dog, but how do I treat the home without harming the bird? I know one of the quickest ways to kill fleas in the house is a flea bomb. How long after I return home to open up the house, can I bring the bird back in? What are some other ways to rid my house of fleas without harming the bird?

i would use the flea bomb, but board Apollo for a few days until your sure the house is safe. good luck :)

Fleas can't live in the carpet, so treating the dog should take care of the problem...

Vacuuming daily will also help...

Make sure to treat your dog and vacuum a few times a week. Also do any laundry if the fleas are in bed sheets and clothes or on small carpets/rugs that can go in washing machines. If the fleas are mostly confined to one or a few areas, move your bird to a safe area and put down some flea powder for the fleas wandering. If you do end up using the flea bombs, board your bird for sure.
