I find that during the holidays in the states, well, here in southern california, that Nuts are extremely cheap.., like $2.99 usd or something for a pound of mixed holiday nuts ( pecan, brazil, almond, chestnut..), unshelled.
I go to Food4Less which is a Kroger sub and find them usually being sold in a big brown barrell.
And just before Dec. 25th, i try to load up and buy like 10#, which is cheap, relative to specialty shop price.
Just a heads up for those looking for a cheap supply of nuts for then next cpl months. Check your local grocer ;)
HTH :)

we stock up just after the holidays... they go on clearance and are even cheaper but we've always bought them for our yard squirrels, we have parrots to buy for this year

That is really cheap, here the cheapest I can find is $3.89/lb shelled at Walmart

They're cheap down here in South East TX too.. I stock up on em for the birds..and for other things too :)

Can you freeze them in the shell? If so, for how long?

I've heard that you need to be careful of the nuts you buy around the holidays... I've heard that polished/dyed nuts can be harmful.

Otherwise, happy shopping!
