Holiday Blues , cheer me with your favorite tradition

I enjoy decorating and driving around to look at Christmas lights.

Don't have many, but one holiday tradition occurs at the very end, or beginning depending on perspective.

My maternal grandmother was born very early New Years Day. Our family celebrates by eating her favorite food in the early afternoon. We graze for hours at an awesome Chinese buffet, one of the few restaurant categories typically open on January 1.

We don’t really have any traditions - but we do go out every New Year’s Day to watch the huge flocks of bald eagles (100+) that hang out on the river near here to eat the nasty-smelling dead salmon :). I’m going to have to do it on the 2nd this year, as I’ll be flying back from my parent’s place on the 1st.

Not a very classic “festive” tradition, but it works for us!

We do lots of things that are normal, but the most bizarre tradition is to burn down maiden grass!!! lol!!! It is supposed to be chopped or burned back every season, but it's more fun when you have been drinking and are in a large group..
About 6 years ago, my uncle (the instigator) actually inadvertently melted a portion of the very proper neighbor's fence with the blaze (it wasn't that close, but apparently it was THAT HOT). It was very funny..thankfully he is very comfortable financially lol!

here is an example of what it looks like---but we do it at night and the plants are larger lol!
