So i was planning on getting a sun conure as my next bird but then i saw this thing on timneh greys that really interested me! now im not sure if i want a timneh or a sun! haha opinions and experiences are welcome! and no im not gonna buy a bird til im sure of which bird i want:) haha how much does a timneh usually go for? diet? temperment? you know all the basic stuff? and how do they differ from sun conures! are they as playful??

personally i'd go for a timneh. i actually wanted one but like most birds, there aren't many
of them here. i hear they're very laid back, and of course are very intelligent. diet is like
many typical parrot diets; pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. they are also prone to
calcium deficiency so make sure they get plenty of calcium. like most greys, they are
playful if they're healthy and stuff, but are way less cuddly than a sun conure, lol.

You cannot go wrong with a TAG in your life. They are sweet, on the quiet side and try to please you. My Rosie can been seen in the thread where we have videos of our birds. Her food has always been Harrison's High Potency pellets and fresh foods. Greys for the most part are not birds that like to cuddle. Sun conures are beautiful to look at and are generally what pet stores sell because they are flashy and catch your eye. I paid a little over $900 for her but you could find a rescue that needs a home for less than that. They are easily trained because they have the grey intelligence. Rosie started to talk about 9 months of age and has not stopped.

My preference is the grey over the conure too. They tend to talk rather than scream, and while they arent known for being cuddly, my grey loooves attention and scratches. With as nippy as most conures are, i wouldnt feel comfortable cuddling with one, lol. We got our grey for 600 with his cage

I say grey..... I have had my TAG for about 6 weeks now and love him so much. His personality is really starting to show now and he is so smart and funny. He does love to get head scritches and he sits in my lap and likes me to pet his head every night before bedtime and sometimes in the morning too. He is already talking some , he says peek-a-boo really cute.
Best of luck with whatever you decide : )

yeah actually now that you mention it.. i've never heard of or seen a grey
"screaming" unless its that loud growl when they hate something up close.
Klaus just started imitating my whistles and won't shut up whenever i'm
around, but other than that.. no screaming. <3

Well everybody is going for the grey, but I have to speak up a little bit on the part of the Sun Conure (being as I have one). If you are looking for a really playful clown, like a cuddly bird, don't mind a loud bird at times, don't mind a little attitude at times (they can for sure be nippy) then a Sun might just be for you. However, on the grey side (I also have one of those, except mine is a Congo) They are EXTREMELY intelligent, most of the time talk like you can't believe (and really seem to understand what they are saying), don't seem to like cuddling but usually love scratches, are somewhat playful however not nearly as much as the Sun in my experience. Mine is much more serious than my Sun. Also Grey's are usually one person birds (and you never know who it is they will choose) Mine chose my husband even though I am the one that takes care of her all of the time. They can also have a little attitude at time. So with all of that being said (which is just my opinion from how my parrots are), I don't think you can go wrong with either parrot. Just as long as you know what you are getting in to with each. They are really completely different in a lot of ways but both have wonderful things about them. But I guess you can tell by the response Grey's are usually more popular. Sun's scare off a lot of people because of their very loud call. Any way that is my 2cents. Good luck with your decision. I have to say I really love both Suns and Greys!!!

There you go - Get both! (LOL) Hey, that's what I did. The sun noise doesn't bother me at all. I am used to it I guess. And mine doesn't do it all the time. She actually makes this sweet quiet little content chirp a lot. All of my conures can do tricks too. They can wave, turn around on command, dance on command, shake head no on command, flip upside down. They love learning tricks. My grey is stubborn about learning tricks. But she makes up for that with her amazing talking ability. And she loves to dance and sing. But when I try to teach her tricks, she looks at me like "No way am I doing that !That is really stupid!" They are all so great!!! Have fun getting it all figured out!

Well i think i've made my decision! im gonna get both!! haha just not at the same time im gonna get the sun first:) since i can buy a good cage about $150 worth of toys and the bird for about $500:) yes i can get them for a really good price here in New Mexico!(yes its in the US) then later get a timneh:) i wonder how much they sell here? but my limit is gonna be ONLY 3 birds! haha what i want to get is a sun and either a Green wing Macaw or a Blue and Gold:) before i said only 2 birds but 3 isn't too bad:) haha i just can not get more then that haha!!

Sounds like a great plan to me! Ya, I know what you mean, I started out saying 2 was my limit, then 3, then 4, now I am definitely at my limit of 5! But this really is all I'm getting! I can't allow myself to look at sites that have birds for sale any more. Most of mine have been rescue's and I just feel like each one has needed me. They are so much fun and very addicting! Good luck finding the perfect one for you!

Thanks:) haha but i don't want to have more because i don't feel i'll be giving each one there own alone time! i want a best friend basically and i can't have 17 best friends!! haha i'll probly get my macaw as a rescue since i probably won't be able to get one til later in life and i want to put as little time as possible between both our times to go:/..soooo when i get my baby sunny do you think i should get a red factor or a normal?? red is my favorite color but i like the bright yellow's and orange's on the normals??! Dangit! yet another decision! haha:)

Mine is a normal, but I think she might have a little red factor in her. She is beautiful! I think both kinds are absolutely gorgeous! Decisions, decisions!! you can't go wrong with either one.
