We are a couple with an only child, Erin, cag. He is our genius 18 year old child. I have been looking for help in the care and training of Erin. Her are some questions:

I have a Grey named Erin. That's the girl spelling, but we think he is a male. I have some questions. first, he is 18 ys old. He is in the cage he has lived in for almost 17 yrs. We have a nice new, bigger cage that my wife would love him to live in and get rid of the trashy old one. How and should I do this?
Second, our vet would like him to get on some pelleted food. Haven't tried before. How should I do this?
Third, my wife doesn't touch the bird. How can we get him and her cool enough to trust one another, so that she can carry him? she is afraid and so is he.
Lastly, our vet found a cyst on his finger. We don't know if it is trouble yet. I want to take him back in 3 months to see if it has gotten bigger. I appreciate any help you can give me on these issues.

Hi,
Erin needs to check out his new home (cage). The best way to do this is to put the cages right up next to each other with the doors open so he can freely go back and forth. Put 1 or 2 of his toys (that he is familiar with in his new home). After a few days, he should be comfortable with his new home. You might want to keep the old one for his "bedroom". that way he can sleep in his old bed, and have the new one for his living room.
One way for Erin and your wife to get comfortable with each other is to sit next to each other. She should sit in a chair next to him in his cage and softly talk to him. She will become accustom to his body language, and he will learn that she just wants to be friends. After a while, and you will know when (if you can read him) they will be able to begin the touch communication, and then their relationship will become natural. Do follow up with your vet.
