blue and gold macaw
hi my name is joe
I have a 4 year old blue and gold named max
I grew up with macaws my dad is a breeder in Michigan
I live in Florida
I don't breed them as I love to spend time and hold them and as we all know you cant really do both which is a shame as I love babies

Welcome Joe! It must have been interesting growing up with your dad being a breeder. Lots of Macaw people here too!

yes it was my dad got his first macaw as payment on a loan she was such a lover and when my dad found out how much you could make with them he went hog wild went from 1 to 12 almost over night
step mother lost a finger to a mating pair in the first month

Hello and welcome to you and Max! We would love to see photos and hear more about him.
So sorry your step mom sacrificed a finger, how awful.

yes it was a shame and didn't have to happen they jumped the gun all they could see was dollar signs didn't take the time to learn about macaws
I will post pics of max soon

Welcome to the forum! Yes Macaws has to be trained with pressure biting and such otherwise they can do some major damage. Even a hand fed youngster needs to be taught correctly otherwise same thing can happen as well. It's not usually the type of birds I suggest to a first time owner but they can be worked with. One of our lovely member off here, Tab, her B&G Macaw "Fargo" was her first macaw but she worked with him so good that he's super talented and sweet.
