Hi! My name is Jonathan and I am new to ParrotForums. I am 37 years old and I live in Maine (US). I have had birds as pets since I was 11 years old. My first bird was a parakeet. Over the years I have had many of them.

Right now, I have two birds, an 18 y/o cockatiel (will be 19 in March) named "Peaches". I have had her since she was one year old. She is a PERFECT angel and the sweetest most gentle bird you will ever meet.

I also have a sun conure that I bought in April of 2011, he was exactly 1 yr and 2 wks old when I got him. He will be 4 y/o in March. He's super cuddly but VERY opinionated. He's not shy in the slightest. I call him 'my little diva' cause that's just what he is. If there ain't no hell going on, he'll raise it just cause he can. I love him to pieces. He is free flighted, and I only cage him at night or when I'm gone (which ain't very often). He loves to 'hang out' with Daddy.

In my spare time I enjoy playing with my birds, obviously, as well as playing video games. I also enjoy listening to music and watching movies. I'm glad to be here and look forward to meeting all kinds of new friends and fellow bird enthusiasts!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I got the pictures fixed. The forum format here is gonna take a little getting used to for me. :))

Pretty babies... I love cockatiels, but can't handle their calls, especially when they are on a roll. I can deal with my Sennies call though, go figure. Do your birds get along? I also have a parrotlet. They defiantly do not get alone. The P'let is the instigator and my Sennie will finish it. But when I put them outside, in separate cages they tolerate that.

No, they do not get along. Or I should say Skittles does NOT get along with Peaches. Peaches is a sweetheart, but she is very noisy, not so much loud, but noisy. I hear you about the goings on of their calling. She often has a lot to say. I pretty much tune them out now, I'm so used to bird noises.

Skittles is VERY loud, not so much noisy, but loud. Fortunately, I have him pretty well trained. He knows not to sqwuak when he's on my shoulder. He is however, very possessive so I can't let him out with Peaches or when others are visiting. I dissuade the behavior as much as possible, but I don't get a lot of company and I'm home alone alot, so he is used to that type of environment.

Peaches, aside from being noisy, is a perfect angel. In the nearly 18 years that I have had her, she has NEVER been naughty. Not a single disciplinary problem.

Skittles, on the other hand, I cannot leave unsupervised. Fortunately, he follows me everywhere. I don't even have to call him over. Which can be both a convenience and a nuisance. But he is such a character. Whenever he hears water or any kind of liquid pouring or dripping he sticks his tongue out and wags it. He drinks from the faucet, which I think is hilarious. He LOVES to bathe and makes the cutest little 'froggy' noises and even mimicks 'kissy noises'. He often does the latter on command as well. I have taught him how to shake hands and I'm looking into other tricks to teach him.

Your birds look very healthy and happy :) Peaches is living a nice long healthy life, and Skittles is following in her footsteps. Conures are a trip aren't they? Mine sticks to me like glue also, as well as my budgies. There is a lot of great information to be had on this forum, as well as a lot of entertainment.

Thank you.

The secret to them looking (and being) so healthy is in their care. I let them out of the cage everyday (Peaches has the run of the bedroom, unsupervised) while Skittles has the run of the living room (supervised). Usually, before I take Skittles out in the morning, I take Peaches out for a little 'daddy & me' time. I can't have them both out at the same time. Skittles won't allow it.

I actually bought Peaches for my mom back in the summer of '95. By early spring of '96 my mom was sick of her. My mom said she wouldn't shut up. Well, I took Peaches, reluctantly, home with me. Turns out all she wanted was to be let out of her cage. I accidentally left her cage door open that first night and when I woke up the next morning she was on my pillow.

They are both fed an organic diet, which is why they look so healthy, cause they are! LOL. I had tons of health problems with Peaches for years, til I put her on a new diet and she's been fine since.
