Hi!

My name is Emma and I'm from Victoria, Australia. I currently have 4 beautiful little Fids - A Cockatiel called Tonks, and 3 Lovebirds, Sid, Johnny and Aussie.

All of my babies are reasonably 'new' to me - I'm not sure how old Tonks is, but I've only had him for a few days, and my Lovies are roughly 5 months old (been with me for 3 months).
I grew up with a Galah and lived with a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo for 2 years, but thought I'd better start small with my own Fids - and I definitely don't regret that decision! These guys might be tiny but they certainly make up for that in personality!

All of my birds were parent raised and not tamed at all (as far as I know), but we're getting there slowly. My Lovies seem to prefer each others company but will eat from my hand, and we are slowly trying to teach them to 'step up'. Tonks has only been here a few days, but will eat from my hand and allow me to touch him as long as I go slow. He won't step up onto my hand yet, but is happy to step up onto a perch.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all and hearing all of your experiences with your beautiful feathered friends!

Emma :)

Welcome to the forum, glad you decided to stop in & join us.....

Congrats on your flock.....

Something most of us never realize is that birds that are kept together & are or become bonded often usually, as you're finding out, prefer to hang with each other than with their human slaves.....Sometimes it's better off to enjoy the companionship of & establish a relationship with a bird, then if you want another bird get the bird for you, unless you want your birds to breed.....

I have a nanday & sun conure that are an item...Fenix is a bit standoffish, but his mate, Jimi is friendly & will interact with you, but if Fenix gets uppity, she may leave you to satisfy Fenix. Both are re-homes & were an item before they took up residence here...and both were in relationships with a couple of caiques until they decided to take up residence together, though it took about about three years before this realization dawned on them...so...there is divorce & new beginnings in parrotdom.....

Hi Weco,
2 of my Lovies are definitely bonded and prefer each others company. Sid is a bit friendlier but not by much lol... One thing I have discovered with these guys though is even though I'm reasonably sure I'm never going to have a close relationship with them, I do love them just as much ;) they have amazing personalities and I can easily just sit and watch them for hours. They have a very large cage so have plenty of flying space but I would still love to let them out - at the moment with them being completely untamed though (and living in a very large open-style house) I'm too worried to let them out, as I would have a lot of trouble getting them back in there cage. Hence the reason for trying to at least half tame them :)

Sounds like an interesting situation you have with your Conures, good luck with that :p
