Hello,

I found this forum looking online. Me and my husband have been talking and have finally decided to buy a Macaw.

I've previously had an orange wing, a quaker and an african grey. the first i lost during the divorce, the 2nd died when i moved to cyprus, he didn't survive import, the 3rd was the same as the 2nd.

I am here hoping to find help and guidence as we go along the macaw journey, but i'm primarily here asking about housing.

I have a 3x2.8x3 meter shed, i plan to buy an indoor cage and build HUGE play tree/stand.

it's the in door cage i'd most like to ask about, i've found the liberta endeavour, but i can't find any reviews or pictures of a macaw using one. can anyone help me?

Hello and welcome to the forums. Just something to consider is you make your outside cage and so on from non toxic supplies so you won't harm yor new macaw:).

For indoor cages I suggest A&e or hq as well I like kings cages. All of these cage manufacturers can be found online on many different sites. The cage for the macaw depending on the bird shoul be 40"x30" depending if it's play top or dome top height will vary. This is just average, but could go up if you wanted:). The bigger the better for most macaws.

thank you very much for the really quick reply.

i'm not in the states however, so i'm not sure how easily i can get these brands. I live in british forces overseas base, so i can still buy online from the UK, so will need to be a UK based supplier.

thank you for the concerns with the out door enclosure, i've had birds before, and having one die makes you super paranoid for the next one, so i'm REALLY careful about what it will come into contact with.

thanks again!!

We have other members that are from the uk that may be able to help more with he topic of cages then. Sorry I cannot as I've neve had expirence in the uk and with cage manufacturers over the.

Yes I know what you Mean, but sadly so many people don't care so I just Make sure as it could save a life!

Scarlett is always happy to help, both with advice and with shipping abroad. If there's anything you'd like that they don't normally stock, they usually don't mind getting it for you. And, they've got some of the best prices. :)

I'm starting to lose my marbles trying to choose a cage, i've found a huge and inexpensive cage, but it's not a brand i know, which makes me nervous of quality, but A&E and HQ websites look like they're manufacturers, so they will be the direct suppliers to the branded companies.... ARGH.

I don't want to spend a fortune just for a name as it needs to be shipped to Cyprus ideally from the UK. but i don't want to end up buying a cage that a macaw is just going to take apart.

it's not going to be in there a lot, it'll be out with me, on the cage, in the aviary, possibly only in it's cage for bed, so i'm not sure if i need the enormous cage i would like to buy.....

I just don't know what to do.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will meet a lot of wonderful, and very knowledgeable people here who know a lot and will be a big help to you. Sorry about your previous birds you lost in transport. I believe the bigger cage the better for the bird. They needs lots of room to get around and for flight and play. Good luck finding the right one and again welcome to the family of bird lovers.

Welcome to the forum and hopefully some of the UK members will come along to help with info on cages:)
