HI-, new here from southern Michigan

Hiya there,

I guess I should start with my pets and move on to my motives, and thats what I will do.
My name is Crystal...hence the name, and I am owned by:
2 Blue and Gold Macaws- Lola was from a pet store chain and a plucker. She was a clearance bird, a woman purchased her that lived in an apartment and the boyfriend was not lets say..bird savy. SO, she contacted to get her out of the home. He name is Lola and she is my baby at almost 3 years old now..yes we are going through some hormones at the moment...LOL.
Harley is a 10 year old male Blue and Gold Macaw I actually adopted from a rescue here in Michigan. Tanya called me and said a male BGM was delivered to her..I drove up 2 hours and picked his big cranky butt up. He is gorgeous and can be very scary at first..but he has come around. He is all bark and no bite really.
I also have a 21 year old CAG named Alex. He has fatty liver and had some dietary issues but he is much better now with some holistic treatment and vet care. He absolutely would like to tear my face off , but he adores my husband. So its ok..he can hate me all he wants..I still feed him and he makes farting noises at me. He is a brat but I adore him.
Rico is my indian ringneck parakeet and his age is unknown. I adopted him from a rescue that I am friends with in Ohio. he was left in an apartment flying around, someone found him. He was surrendered to her for biting ..but he doesnt. He is really sweet and has been here now for over a year.
Last but not least is my newest addition..Cobba a Black Winged Jardines. he was very loved by his owner. he is 10 years old and is so very sweet and loving. His owner and I have come to an agreement that he will become of of my permanent residents and my last pet bird that will live here permanently.

I also have 3 cats and 2 dogs, 2 rats, and a Short Tailed Opposum.

I am also mother to 3 children. Damon is 7 and going into the 2nd grade. Lana just turned 6 years old and is disabled so she is not in school..long story, Ophelia is 2 1/2 and a demon of a child with the cutest face and personality. I am a proud mommy.

I am a full time student and this semester will kick my behind in more ways than 1. I am taking the hardest of my classes to get into the nursing program. I am a contingent at a hospital in the ICU as a medical assistant.

I also...here is goes because there is so much uproar about this I hesitate writing it but here it goes. I also run a small in home parrot and exotic pet rescue. I have a team and we use mostly foster homes so not 1 person is bombarded or overwhelmed. We do mostly education and some intakes, some adoptions..but education is the goal. We do look for homes for birds through boards at times. But as I stated we are mostly in this for the education aspect. been involved in the care of parrots since 2nd grade...and moved on to rescue when I was married.

This is me and I am sorry it is long....I see some familiar names here.

Hey Crystal, it's Judy! So glad you joined the forum!

Hi Crystal and flock welcome to the forum, Kudos to you for the rescue work, unfortunatly there are to many parrots out there that need the help, this is a great place to give and get advise as well as to share ideas and experiences with other friendly and like minded members, btw if you have any pics of your fids we'd love to see them, enjoy your stay :)

Welcome Crystal!
You certainly have alot on your plate. It felt a bit familiar as I am also a nurse and about 15 years ago was working on a degree while raising the three kids and a husband and a house and barn full of paws, hooves and feathers. As I can tell you already know just keep shlogging forward and laughing frequently. With your background you will be a fabulous nurse!
