Awaiting my baby blue front...
Hi there, I'm new here. My name is Alianne (or just Ali) and I'm 19 years old. I live in Australia with my parents, sister, 2 dogs and 3 cats. Soon I'll be adding a blue-fronted amazon parrot to my family. I'm currently on a waiting list for a hand-raised, fully weaned baby from a breeder, and I should be able to take him home in January. I cannot wait! :green:

My pets are an extremely important aspect of my life. I prefer animals to people generally, especially because of the way people treat animals. I find animals never let you down, and seem to have a sixth sense about your emotions and can always cheer you up.

My boyfriend of over two years (Andy) is also really excited about my soon-to-be parrot. He loves birds and he wants to get a Quaker or an Alexandrine when he finishes uni. We also plan to have a decent sized flock when we get our own place.
His parents used to own an Amazon, but had to leave him behind when they moved from Scotland to Australia, so they'll be able to help me out if I run into any trouble.

I've been researching for over 6 months about diet, nutrition, behaviour, health, enrichment, and have read heaps of training books. I have experience training dogs, cats and rats, and am really interested in psychology. I'm hoping to do Psychology at University next year, leading into Animal Behaviour.

Andy and I built our own Play Gym and will be building our own aviary soon. I have also bought a sleep cage, as well as a spare cage to keep at Andy's house for when myself and my parrot go and visit.

Thanks for the really warm welcomes, guys!
Here's a picture of the play gym, but it has been modified slightly since that picture was taken; another perch has been added, and the food dish position modified.

Don't worry, you'll definitely hear all about my new baby and how we're going! I know I'll be keen to share everything with anyone who will listen, and I'll be taking plenty of photos too =P
The anticipation is killing me though! It's so frustrating knowing that I still have to wait about 2 months before I can bring my new baby home! But I suppose it gives me more time to get everything prepared.

Hi Ali and welcome to the forum, kudos for doing your research in advance, sounds like you'll be pretty well ready when you finally bring your baby home, lots of good info here, as well as many members owned by amazons that can help out with advice and share their experiences, please enjoy your stay :)

Thanks guys =]
It does seem like a very friendly forum - no real nastiness or judgmental people that you get at some other forums.

I'm a huge believer in researching before getting a pet. I hate seeing people with pets they have no idea how to care for, nor are they interested in learning.

Oh, Ratzy, I love the Grampians! I went on a school rock climbing camp there in year 9. It was absolutely amazing.

Thanks Sharon. Yeah, they are amazing birds. I've spent a lot of time playing with one in a pet shop. She is so cute. And I love Storm the BFA featured on the birdtricks youtube chanel.
